"Remember Eden, the sky's the limit," I remembered his voice.
"But what if I can't see the sky?" I had asked in a quick monotone, aiming to be smart and humorous.
"Well how would that happen?" He asked, his tone holding a hint of amusement.
"What if I was inside a house?" I suggested.
"Well then go outside dummy!" My little brother's voice squeaked irritably...
The sky's the limit, huh? I thought cynically, my hand outstretched towards the distant yet brilliant moon. My foot was planted on to a thin branch that held its place at the top of the fifty foot tree. My other hand gripping the tip of the tree loosely. Wonder what would happen if I were to fall?
The cold air was still, clinging to me in the silence of the night. Nothing stirred, nothing interrupted the peace of the night.
These were always my favorite nights. The quiet ones. These were the nights that drew me to climb this tree. To admire the endless silhouettes of the forest that stretched out to the horizon. I've been climbing this tree ever since I moved here after my 11th birthday. So for about 7 years. After my step-dad died, mom thought it would be best to find a place to restart. My real dad died when I was younger. Too young to really remember him.
"Eden!" My little brother's voice erupted from the silence, far below to the ground, and pulled me from my thoughts. I groaned, he knew I was up here, and I didn't want him to join me. So I quickly leapt down from branch to branch.
"What do you want?" I asked in a monotone as my feet touched the ground, and I faced my little brother-well, more like half brother, different dads. Sven, 16, light brown hair and pale gray eyes. He stood around 5'5, just an three inches shorter than me. He had a sharp jawline, just as I did. though he was a bit slimmer than me. He seemed like a shy guy-until you saw his stupid smile. And experienced his constant positivity.
He actually contrasted me quite a bit. I had messy dark brown hair, along with focused, green eyes. I was anti-social, with a relatively small clique, I didn't smile very often and tended to have a more...realistic view on things.
"I didn't want anything, but Kait and the others wanted me to come get you!" He smiled brightly at me, or hopefully? Couldn't tell, didn't care.
"Why? What brilliant plan do they have this time?" Sven turned and began striding down out of the woods as I questioned him sarcastically. I was used to this by now, so I simply followed him.
"Not sure, I didn't question their wisdom! But you need to be getting out more anyways!" Sven threw a glance over his shoulder at me.
I muttered a complaint, but didn't object. He wasn't wrong.
We made our way through the dark woods, having no trouble in the darkness. Where most's eyesight would be of no use. We saw as clear as day. We'd also taken this path hundreds of times, our scent was practically embedded in the ground and trees along this path.
A sudden distant snap of a twig stopped Sven and I in our tracks. I was the first to respond by turning my head and surveying the silhouette of tress and shrubs.
"Deer?" Sven asked softly, glancing at me as I shook my head.
"No, not the same scent, it's another wolf," I stated calmly, making my way towards the sound.
My bones shifted smoothly as I dropped down to four paws. Several small clicks sounded from my bones as they locked together. Dark fur sprouted and enveloped over me.
I had embraced my wolf and taken it's form. One of the many perks of being a werewolf.
Sven had simply followed without changing his form, "Another wolf on our territory? Why? They have plenty of space," He wondered aloud, more curious than anything.
