❝And why should I care about your opinion, Andrews?❞

❝I loved her. You know what? I still love her. She means the absolute world to me and if I see one tear fall from that perfect face of hers, I'll give you hell.❞

     KALANI ROSE guessed the world expected too much of her. First, it expected her to fall in love with Archie Andrews. She had no quarrels about him — their relationship lasted throughout their freshman year, and Archie treated her with the utmost respect. However, they just weren't destined to be. Kalani could slowly feel the late night conversations slipping away and the spark between them slowly dying. As much as Archie fought to keep the girl by his side, Kalani broke free of their tedious relationship.

     Second, it expected her to bounce back and move on with her life. Archie was a huge part of who she was, and seeing him bulk up and ditch their friendly dates didn't sit well. The only person she could run to was her older cousin, Lucas, and even then, she felt like an immense burden.

     Third, it pushed Kalani to the point where she didn't feel like smiling anymore. Archie once said Kalani's smile could light up the whole room, but frankly, no one's seen her sunshine since the death of Jason Blossom. Kalani is a stone cold face attempting to disguise the pressure she felt inside. She wanted to continue to be Riverdale's resident nice girl, and compete with Betty Cooper for that number one spot; however, it was as if Archie was the glue keeping her together. Without him, she felt lost and abandoned.

     That is, until she properly meets Reggie Mantle. The boy is nothing but a nuisance and Kalani will never forgive him for pulling at her pigtails when they were younger. She's absolutely appalled when she's assigned the job of tutoring him, and she would rather date Archie again than spend one hour everyday with the boisterous jock.

     Reggie Mantle is ecstatic. He finally has an edge over Archie, and taunts him everyday with the reminder that he was the one who got to see Kalani at the end of the day. He enjoys crawling under Archie's skin until his tutoring sessions become more than a motivation. He suddenly wants to know everything and anything about Kalani Rose, including the reason why he barely sees her glistening smile under the locks of her hair.

     Reggie thinks it's impossible to get Kalani to like him. All he's known for is being an asshole to Jughead Jones and a rowdy football player who would rather choose the sport over anything else in his life. Reggie wants to prove everyone wrong. He wants to show the world he can produce true, pure emotions if they gave him the time of day.

     But first, he has to prove himself to Kalani, a girl who's learned to stop smiling.
