Dedicated To My Dad
"Was it all a dream? I swear, it wasn't. I felt the clouds and the green grass. It felt so real... The scent of the trees, the wind, the cool breeze, the fresh air... Am I getting insane?"
"Doc, help. I don't know what to do, I just wake up, but I never sleep. And I sometimes have weird hallucinations, well maybe not a hallucinations... Just help me."
"Alice, what do you see?"
"I, I see... Rabbits, yes, rabbits, it has a tiny pocket watch, a mad hatter, another rabbit that drinks tea. An evil queen of hearts..."
"Is that all, Alice?"
"No... This world or wonderland I call, is much different than the other wonderland I call."
"Do you see them even if you're in real life?"
"Yes... I-I do."
"But, but, doc, the rabbits and, my wonderland... I, I always dreamt about it when I was young... I, now I, now... Now I have a different world. New! It's, it's much more beautiful than real life. I know it, I know it's not real... Bu-but, it looks real."
"Calm down, Alice. Talk slowly."
"O-Okay... Alright."
"I-I have another world."
"Again?"
"A-Another one."
"A new one."
"Much better, much beautifully, it's just nice looking."
Alice gazed up the wall.
"I-it was mesmerizing. I, I'd rather be there, not here."
"Alice, be brave."
"I will. I'll try." Alice said as tears forming in her eyes.
"Doc, what if I can't? What about my children? What about Mary, my only child?"
"You must be strong Alice. You're my friend. We can't lose you."
Alice stiffens up.
"I'm sorry if I can't."
"I want to be in my world."
"In my world for longer. More longer."
Alice stands up.
"And I will try my best to be in reality."
She sprinted across the hall, letting the door open. "Alice!""I am Alice. I am alive as well. I am Alice, it rhymes. Alice alive."
"Not anymore." Suddenly, knocks surrounded the area.
"Yes, come in." oh it's my beloved Mary.
"Mother, why hadn't you got out more?"
Alice looked at her own daughter.
"So that I can face my own fears, my dear."
"Mother, I am afraid and worried about you. Please, never leave us and Father. We love you with all of our hearts, please mother, please. I had heard of your thoughts, and I don't want them to happen."
"I wish I can." Eyes widened by Mary as Alice said those words. "But I can't stay longer. My fears, my reality, my wonderland is approaching. I'm old and I'm not the young Alice that everyone knows of. My stories for you when you where little, had changed. Perhaps, I want to end all of my suffering. All of my guilt. All of my sadness and grief since happend when your brother passed away." Mary sat beside her mother.
"I miss him too. Mom, I understand that you don't want to.... To you know."
"Shush my dear. I know. I know. But your mum's getting older by the minute."
"Remember my stories, and tell them to your children and your children's children."
Alice sighed and looked at the clock as she began to spoke the words that she wanted to ask her daughter for a long time.
"If I ever die, have all of my riches. Never let your father get into my eyes. Never."
"Why mom?"
Alice got closer and whispered her words
"Your father is a greedy man. He wanted me dead for all of those years since I gave birth to you. I have the eyes of the most priced artifact. And incredible. It was given to me by my grandfather. I told your father all about it, since that very day, he wanted me dead."
Mary gasped.
"How could he?"
"I don't know either. He is a greedy and prideful, per say, hubristic. I was wrong to love and marry him."
"After I die, scoop out my eyes and put it in a jewelry box of mine and kept it lock. And open it again until you're sixty eight. And take a wish that would forever change anything. Because your father wanted it for his wish. His wrong wish. I kept it in my eyes, I kept it in it." Alice sighed.
"But it was a wrong turn I made."
"A very wrong one. Now I am cursed. But little did your father know that whoever gets my eyes that I do not want to be with, will be dead for sixty eight days. But, the magic would still be back, again, in my eyes, but the person I chose wanted, it would be theirs. But needed a price to pay. Their sanity."
"Mom." "Yes dear?"
Mary gulped and gave her mother a worried look. "Is this all real?"
"Yes, sadly it is."
"Okay, mom, I believe you because I love you."
"And most of all..." Marry gave her mother a sweet hug.
"I trust you."
Alice chuckled. "Thank you, I love you too."
