(Inspired by my cousin and her husband)

“Be quiet!,” our little daughter said as she  put her finger to my mouth. I played along and pretended to zip my lips up, her stern looking so she could resume with playing with Legos that had been scattered across the floor. Averie continued to snap the blocks together, smiling, with just like her mom did, because she was so proud of herself.

Her mom was passed out on the couch because waddling around was a lot of work, even though I founded it to be adorable.

“Here,” I said as I handed a pink Lego to her. “Its bright pink, just like your pretty bow Mommy put in.”

“No. I want the big ones,” she replied, knocking the Lego away.

“Oh sorry, sweetie.”

“No!” she said turning, as pile of blocks on her mom’s belly rolled off.

“Here,” I said with a bigger Lego now and trying to salvage the pile of bricks that had fallen on the floor., “What are we making anyway?”

“A house. What did you think it was, daddy?”

“A house, I was just making sure honey,” I replied, squinting to see how the blob was supposed to that.

I put the blob back on top of her belly. After a few more minutes of working, the house began to tilt off again as she moved around in her sleep. Holding my breath I stuck out my hand but we both breathed a sigh of relief as she stopped shifting. We began our work again and got so involved that we didn’t notice her open her eyes.

“What’s going on?” she said surprised, trying to lift her head off the pillow.

“Don’t move mommy!” Averie shouted.

“Averie, whats on my stomach?

“Its our house!”

“Pretty cool huh?” I said, trying to work up to the level of glee that Averie was giving off. “We’re almost finished and th-”. The baby kicked, causing the house to slid off and crash into little pieces.

“No!” Averie put her hands to her head and curled up into a little ball.

“It wasn’t me!” she said, throwing her arms up in the air playfully.

“My sister did it then!”

“You know, it might be a baby boy,” I said, picking up Averie so I could give her a hug.

“Eww. Boys are icky,” she said as she tried to wriggle out of my grasp.

“Did you hear that?” I said, letting go of our daughter and grabbing her hand to help (Y/N) sit upright on the couch.

“I can’t make any promises,” she said as I placed a kiss on her cheek.

“You can make one to love me forever.”

“Yes haha,” she giggled “That is one promise I can keep. There’s no one I’d rather be stuck with than you” she said as I pecked her lips, causing a smile to wash over my face.-C
