"Luke! Get your lazy butt up before you miss your first day of school!"
That's the first thing I hear this lovely Tuesday morning. First day of freshman year. The clock says 6:50. School starts at 7:15. I've got 10 minutes till I have to get my ass on the bus. Great, just great!
I throw on my khaki pants and blue short sleeve shirt, stumbling a bit. Then I run to the bathroom carefully, brush my teeth and comb my hair. Once I'm done I grab my shoes and backpack and head downstairs. Grabbing the toast out of my moms hand, I shout a quick "good bye" to her and close the door behind me.
My bus stop is only a block away. I finish my piece of toast on the way. Once I reach the bus stop I see Ellie. She's wearing jeans shorts and a simple T-shirt. She's standing there on her phone with her back facing me. I decide to try to scare her.
I walk up behind her and get ready to yell "boo".
"Don't even think about it." She says then turns around. "I saw you coming."
"Whatever." I reply and wave her off.
"Anyways, are you excited for the first day of freshman year?" She asks me.
"I guess, but I don't wanna be in the same school as my brother." I answer. She nods understandingly.
"Where is Liam anyway?" She questions.
"He's driving to school with some friends." I say.
She just nods then goes all quiet. I notice the group of other high schoolers walking our way. That's why she's all quiet. She turned into shy Ellie.
After a few minutes Theo and Jules show up. Theo is wearing his usual flannel and gray T-shirt with khaki pants. Jules is sporting her black skirt and blue blouse. Her golden hair is flowing in the light wind.
"Bro!" Theo yells and 'bro-hugs' me.
"Yo!" I reply.
"Hey Luke." Jules says.
"Hey Jules." I answer.
"Hey Ellie." Jules says to Ellie.
Ellie waves in reply and nods a silent 'what's up' to Theo. Theo and Jules see the group of other people behind us and nod in understanding.
"So school's gonna suck ass." Theo states breaking the uncomfortable silence.
"No kidding. I don't want to have to see all of those ugly faces again." Jules adds.
"They're not all ugly." I say and the angel herself pops into my brain. Oh Fawn, what a beautiful person you are.
"She's not that pretty." Ellie states breaking her not talking streak, knowing who I'm thinking about. Then she goes silent again.
"She speaks! Finally!" Theo adds a little too loudly.
I see Ellie roll her eyes, but she can't stop her usual little sweet smile from forming. Then I take into account what she actually said.
"For your information Fawn in the most gorgeous person in our grade." I start.
"Excuse me!" Jules scoffs and cuts me off.
"What it's true." I state.
She scoffs once again and flips her hair in disgust. I roll my eyes at her.
"I'm sorry Jules. You know your #1 in my book. Of course Theo and Ellie are too." I tell her reassuringly.
"Good and it better stay that way." She threatens jokingly and points a finger hitting my chest with it. I nod a small ok and show a small smile.
The bus arrives and we all get on. Theo sits in the window seat and I plop down next to him. Jules sits in the window seat on the other side of the isle. Ellie sits next to her.
The bus ride is pretty quiet as everyone gets ready to go to hell. The bumpy drive of death as we like to call it. I put my earbuds in my ears and take a deep breath, preparing for what's to come.
