Unexpected Help

We barely made it out unscathed. After running for about 30 minutes away from the warehouses, we stopped and hid in one of those abandoned houses along the road. Hazel and I set Kurt down on the floor to try calm him down. He's still squirming and screaming while sobbing at the same time.

Hazel knelt down and held Kurt in his face while struggling to get away.

"Stop. Please, just stop. I know you want to go back to help Hugo and Clark, but It won't help at all if we went back and got caught. Everything we did, and everything that they sacrificed for, will all be for nothing." Hazel said to Kurt in a candid manner

After a  few minutes, Kurt finally calmed down, but he was still crying. I stood up and looked around the area. It was windy and the snow quickly covered up the path that we went through. It was both reassuring and distressing. It reassured me that because of the current weather condition, Nathan and the others wouldn't be able to keep up with us. But at the same time, it made me worry that if the weather gets more worse, we would get stuck here. I decided to take initiative.

"We should go." I said as I flipped the hood to my head

"Go? Where? We should probably stay here until the weather lightens up" Hazel said

"No. We should go now, before it gets worse." I said then I opened the door to outside

"Okay, but where? We have nowhere to go to." Kurt asked

"We'll find where we'll go along the way." I said

As Kurt stood up, his leg cracked. Hazel offered to use her coat to tie it around the crack to prevent further damage, but he refused. I knew that sooner or later, if he puts more pressure on the prosthetic leg, it'll break, so I wrapped his right arm around my neck before we went on.

We walked straight ahead. We had almost zero visual in our surroundings, with snow covering everything. We eventually got into the town area, which looked like a ghost town, because people are staying inside their own shelters. There was no sound to be heard, besides the harsh winds slamming through trees and other things outside.

Once we were past the town, we were faced with long walks to the city through the express lanes. As we got farther, the storm grew stronger, which pretty much makes our every step on the way "cemented".

After hours of walking, we got to the city, but instead of going through it, we decided to go around it as we still are wanted by the Android Corps. By the time that we got to the outskirts of the city, the storm was already weakening, so there were people going out of their shelters, which prompted us to take a break and hide as we can't risk ourselves getting seen by people.

"I think it's good time to discuss where we should go, now that we're here." Hazel said

"I think it's best to go to the next state and stay quiet there until everything settles down." Kurt suggested.

"Although I don't think that everything will settle down and come back to normal soon, going to there is a good idea." I said after a short silence

"It's settled then." Hazel said.

After a few minutes, we went back to walking but this time, we actually have a plan. As we were walking, we noticed that some people were staring at us, so we walked faster. A few more minutes passed and we see that some people were now discreetly following us, with some other whispering and pulling out their phone and cameras.

We rushed to find a place to hide and lay low for awhile. As I looked back, I saw a group of men following us. They had focused blood-lusted eyes. We didn't run away immediately, but as we did as we came across a crossroad.

We ran so fast, to the point where Kurt's prosthetic leg broke. We had to carry him by our shoulders as he jumps forward. We hid and found solace behind an abandoned and unfinished sky-way.  We hid quietly and waited for the gang to pass us.

After we saw the people go by, I told Hazel and Kurt to have some rest and sleep; for it's been a whole day without rest. An hour passed by and someone found us. He was old, but he looked capable of harming us. I quickly stood up in defense.

"Please don't hurt us." I said as I slowly pulled both Hazel and Kurt to stand up.

"Whoa boy, I'm not going to hurt you, in fact I was about to say the same thing." The old man said

The three of us sighed in relief

"My name is Edward, you can simply call me Ed." The man said

"My name is Shawn, this girl is Hazel and this boy is Kurt." I said

"You kids look like you need a place to stay in, perhaps we can let you stay for the night, or a few days maybe." The man said

"Oh thank you so much, but where is it?" Hazel asked

"Follow me." The old man said as he walked away

We hesitated, but we went anyways, as we were desperate for any kind of shelter. We followed the old man through the woods and we saw a small community of some sort, with the houses made from the materials left from the unfinished construction work back in the bridge.

"You know, we may be homeless physically, but we found a home in one another." The old man said as he showed us the place

"It's great." I said with a smile

There were about eight houses forming a circle, with the center being a small water well. There were kids running and playing around in the snow, some were making snowmen, some were throwing around snowballs and some were making snow angels. The children were so playful and innocent; it was fascinating sight.

Ed showed us around the place and introduced us to the people. It was the first good thing that I saw in a few days. It was peaceful there, unlike the whole state, which is chaotic. It'd be a shame if something bad happened here.
