Two Hours Later

Jade's POV

We were currently waiting to go on stage to perform but Lauren didn't seem bothered, her mind was somewhere else.

"Guys, seriously have you got my phone? I need it." She huffed as she checked her clothes once more to make sure she hadn't slipped them into any of her costume pockets.

"For the sixth time LoLo. No." Camila said as she straightend out her skirt.

"You probably left it, in the dressing room." Dinah said turning around slightly to face Lauren.

"I hope not." Lauren groaned. "Stage managment said we aren't allowed to go back and I need my phone."

"Why?" I asked confused.

"I promised my Mom that I'd take pictures and videos for her." She said looking sad.

I smiled and hugged her, before reaching into my back pocket and pulling my phone out.

"Unlike you lovely ladies, my costume is just the England football shirt and black jeans as you can see. So...It's a kinda casual look and so I put my phone in my pocket without thinking. I'm rambling I know but what I'm tryin' to say is I'll let you borrow my phone to take pictures and videos."

"No thanks." She replied. "It's fine. Don't worry about it."

"Babe I insist." I say handing her my phone.

"NO! JUST LEAVE IT OKAY?!" She snapped and pushed me away gently.

"Sorry for wanting to help you." I mumbled as I put my phone back in my pocket just as a crew member came and told us it was time.

A few moments later we were all postioned in our places, we had rehearsed just before everything kicked off with Lauren Cim. It was only a quick session because there were loads of people to get through.

"London." Ally said into her mic. "Are you ready?"

The crowd screamed loud, but we all knew they could be louder.

"No London." Dinah spoke. "We know y'all can be louder."

"Are you ready?!" We all said into our mics and we were welcomed by a much louder scream.

Camila then started to sing Work From Home.

Followed by Write On Me.

Worth It.

Squeeze.

Big Bad Wolf.

Not That Kinda Girl.

During Work From Home, I did the rap part and during Worth It. Dinah did Not That Kinda Girl.

"Alright guys, you've seen what Jade can do. We're gonna take a small break and leave you to enjoy this talented girl." Normani said before walking towards the back of the stage and sitting down on the steps.

I walked up to the mic stand that had been set up and looked ahead at the sea of people. Being up here, technically all on my own with nobody to sing with was scary. I had never been infront of a crowd so big.

The music started to play but no words came out of my mouth. I was frozen, unable to move. Fear had taken over.

Some people started to laugh, others looked confused and began talking to their friends. I heard laughter from behind me so I quickly turned my head to see Lauren laughing and the rest of the girls looking sorry for me. I let out a shaky breath as I turned around again and the music began to play.

It was time for me to sing but I was frozen again...Until..

Oo-ooh
Ooo-ooo-oh, ooo-ooo-oh
Oo-ooh
Ooo-ooo-oh, ooo-ooo-oh

Oo they don't hear us
Read us bedtime stories from their textbooks
Oo try to reign us in
Blind to our intelligence

I turned my head to the side of the stage to see Lauren Cimorelli walking towards me, singing my song. We locked eyes and she smiled at me, nodding her head in encouragment.

Standardization of the masses
Give us a number fail or pass us
Education, manipulation
Decide our fate but never ask us

She continued to sing until she reached me, she layed her hand on my back and gently pushed me.

We're about to boil over
You can't keep us down forever

She sang, and then the music stopped as she waited for me to sing.

"You can do this." She whispered in my ear.

We got too big for the cage you locked us up in
Let's mark this down as the day that we start something
So open the gate, open the gate cause when we
Finally escape, finally escape we'll be
Tearin' through the streets
Running with the wild things

Oo-ooh
Ooo-ooo-oh, ooo-ooo-oh
Oo-ooh
Ooo-ooo-oh, ooo-ooo-oh

Hey, why you waitin'?
Quit cravin' notches to count the days 'cause
They're losing power
See 'em growing weaker by the hour

We're about to boil over
You can't keep us down forever

We got too big for the cage you locked us up in
Let's mark this down as the day that we start something
So open the gate, open the gate cause when we
Finally escape, finally escape we'll be
Tearin' through the streets
Running with the wild things

The music stopped and everyone cheered and we finished singing. Some parts I sang  on my own, some Lauren sang with me.

"Thank you." I said as I hugged her.
