Living In A Nightmare

Chapter 3

One year ago

"Mon come on your gonna be late!"
"Ugh I'm coming mum"

See normal! My name is Monique John. one year ago everything was normal. Everything.

It was athletics day at school and I really didn't want to go.
"Stop hogging the shower Jay!"

(In case your wondering Jay's my older brother)

"Oh shut up Monique! I'm coming!"
I had a shower and got changed and began walking to school. The sky was blue, the sun was shining, everything was perfect

That day was the last perfect day I've had since the darkness. The sun was actually shining, and now days I've forgotten what the sun looks like, I've forgotten what a good day looks like. I can barely remember my mums face, my best friend Shannon's face and I can only just remember what my boyfriend Kyle looks like.

"Mon! Hey!" It was Shannon. She ran up to me and put her phone in my face. "Have you seen the news?!" She asked.
"Umm no, what's happened?"
"Heaps of towns have been losing power and there's no way of fixing it!"
"What?!" I yell

That's when it all began

"Monique! Hey beautiful"
It was Kyle
"Oh hey I say" not paying much attention
"What's up?, you look worried about something. It isn't that stuff on the news is it? Cause if it is don't worry about it, it'll be fixed in no time.
"it's not" I lie.
"Okay good" he says "I have rugby training you coming?" He asked
"Uh sure, I'll be there soon" I said as he gave me a kiss bye. I was to worried about the news. I'll go later.

That was the last time I sore Kyle. The last time I felt his touch on my lips, the last time we spoke.

Suddenly there was a voice on the school speakers
"Everyone is to go home now! Your parents have been contacted and they are on their way, please make your way to the front gate in a calm orderly fashion.
" umm I'll see you later Shannon, bye"
"Bye Mon" she replied running down the hall

Little did I know that was the final goodbye I would say to Shannon. Little did I know that was gonna be the last time I spoke to her....

I walked out to the gate and my mum was waiting parked in our little blue car just in front of me. I got in the car and chucked my bag on the back seat and we drove off
"What's thus about mum?" I asked after what felt like 10 years of silence
"Its nothing for you to worry about sweety"
"Is it about the stuff on the news? Shannon told me about it"
"Well she shouldn't of" mum said. "Don't worry Mon, it'll all work out"
She looked at me and smiled. I smiled back but I knew we were both faking it. Why would we actually be smiling at a time like this?..
"Have you seen my phone?" I ask.
"Oh its in the glovebox lovey" she says bending down to grab it.
"Mum!!! Look!" I scream
"Aaggghhhhh!!!!" She yells as we smash straight into the front of a car.

I don't remember much of what happened after that, its all pretty blury.
But I do remember waking up and seeing my mum lieing there, lifeless.

I was in my house and it was dark apart from a little candle lit lamp, sitting next to my breathless mother. She was gone, dead, I was broken. Heart broken. How could this of happened to her. My mum! I burst into tears until a small puddle had formed on the floor next to where I layed. That's when it started. The darkness, that's when it began..
