It was a normal day at school with the guys and Kim when Mika runs up to us "hei Kim! I didn't know Donovan is back in town" she says and Kim squeals, running off with a huge smile. We all look at Mika who is smiling "I guess she didn't know" she muses "ok who is Donovan?" Eddie asks and I nod. She smirks evily and I instantly knew that her answer would do no good "you'll see" she says and walks away. I look after her with a blank expression but Jerry and Eddie just gape at her while Milton nods understandingly "who do you think it is?" Jerry asks and I roll my eyes. Though Eddie has other ideas "Mabey it's a crush, a long lost brother, a family member, a boyfriend?" he recommends. I wince at the last one cause I feel my heart twist and turn painfully in my chest. Suddenly the bell rings "come on guys it's time for homeroom" Milton tells us and we walk down the hall to room 30- homeroom. I sit down at my usual spot since we sit alphabetically I sit in-front of Kim cause my surname is Brewer and her's is Crawford. Suddenly Kim walks in laughing and holding some dude's hand and I have to calm my anger for a while before greeting her "Hey Kim" I say. The dude has black hair, blue eyes and is pretty muscular too. By the time I actually greet her, she's already at her seat and the dude is sitting in-front of her, turned around and talking to her quietly, almost silently. When she doesn't answer I look at the guys and they look just as confused as me but Mika is smirking knowingly while looking directly at me, in the eye and I can see her smugness in her smile and eyes. I roll my eyes and turn back to the front of the class but quickly turn around when I see Kim smiling happily with the dude. Wait could this be the Donovan that has been causing so much commotion between all of my friends? By the look on Mika's face...yes it is, I sigh relieved as the teacher Mrs. Gregory comes in and calls out attendance and as it turns out, Donovan's last name is Adams so shouldn't he sit in-front of me and not behind me? Once the teacher was done, I walked over to the guys, after attendance the teacher doesn't really care where we are as-long as we're in the class and they wave to me but seemingly in a daze, looking at the dude, Donovan with curious expressions. I roll my eyes "guys what's so great about him?" I ask them but it falls on deaf ears as they only ignore my and keep staring at the guy in wonder. And so the class goes on; me being jealous of Donovan, Mika being smug of something and Jerry and the others looking at Donovan curiously. I'll skip the next few classes cause that would be extremely, extremely boring and useless too so let's skip to lunch. I walk into the cafeteria and guess what I see or more like who I see; Donovan sitting at our table next to Kim and round-about every girl in school crowding around there. I sigh and walk over to the lunch thingy, again with the mystery meat and stuff the only thing that I will eat in this entire buffet is mabey the pudding and an apple. The rest I do not trust since last time when half of the school got sick from the meatballs and then I was grateful for the apples since that day I ate only an apple. I grab an apple and a bowl of pudding but put it down almost immedietly when I saw a dead fly in it, I walked back to my table and still Donovan is there with all the girls. I smile at them and motion with my head for them to leave and they obey immediately "Hey guys" I greet my voice kind of wavering but I quickly cover it up with a smile. They all greet me in their signature ways and I look at Donovan "Hi I'm Donovan" he introduces and I put a fake smile on my face "Hi I'm Jack" I introduce and he nods smiling aswell. I sit down and take a bite out of my apple " so what's new?" Jerry asks it directing it to me "Nothing new just a bit tired of school" I tell him and he nods understandingly. I look around at the people around me in the silence that fell around us all "soooooooo..." Mika says a little uncomfortably and we only look at her with blank expressions. I roll my eyes at her uncomfortable expression "when did you get here Donovan?" I ask, my voice as kind as possible while still a bit of curiosity floods into it. He smiles "a few days ago" he tells me and I nod with a solemn expression on my face "so when are you leaving?" I hear a voice ask and I'm surprised to see that it isn't mine. I look up and look around our little table to see who asked it and to my surprise I conclude that it was Kim who asked that "in about a few days" he answers with a sad expression and she gives a small, sad smile. We all fall into another uncomfortable silence "ok I can't take it anymore! Let's just play 20 questions will we?" Julie yells after a little while, which surprises me but it is kinda funny and we all laugh at her impatience. I nod in agreement at her statement "ok you begin" I tell her and she turns to Milton who was on her left "ok Miltie, what's your favorite element out of the periodic table?" she asks and I sigh "Oxygen" he says. Julie nods and he turns to Mika who is on his left "Mika, what is your favorite color?" he asks and Mika smiles "green" she says with her thick Hagmakistan accent and Milton nods. She then turns to Jerry again on her left "Jerry, who was your first kiss?" she asks and I snicker from behind my hand at Jerry's uncomfortable expression while Kim is just outright laughing "Kawy" he mumbles incoherently and she just gives him a stern look "fine it was Katie" he sighs. Mika just smiles "you see it wasn't that hard" she tells him, leaning on his shoulder, he sighs relieved and turns to Eddie "yo Eddie, what's your favorite food?" he asks and I laugh "all of it is" Eddie says seriously. Jerry shrugs and Eddie turns to me "ok Jack, uhm... What is your favorite animal?" he asks and as I think about it, the answer pops into my head "an eagle" I say smiling and he nods. I turn to Donovan "ok we don't know you very well so Donovan, where do you come from?" I ask and he smiles "Japan" he says and my jaw drops aswell as the rest of the guys' "ok wow" I mumble quietly and he turns to Kim. I pay close attention to the next happening "ok Kim, who is your crush?" he asks and Kim blushes "I'll give you a hint, he's in our school" she says and he shakes his head "ok I'll find our later anyway" he says and Kim just sticks out her tounge. She then turns to Julie "ok Julie, what is your favorite TV show?" Kim asks "science with Stevan Penata (made up)" She says and she and Milton high five. I laugh at Kim's slightly irritated expression as does Donovan "ok so... What now?" Donovan asks clearly not knowing what to do next. Me and the guys smirk and the girls start objecting before we could even say anything, things like "no guys, I don't think that's a good idea" or "no guys not now" coming from their mouths but it falls upon deaf ears as we ignore them. Jerry opens his mouth to say it but the bell rings signaling the end of lunch and we all groan besides the girls who sigh relieved "thank goodness" Kim mumbles thankfully and we walk away to our individual classes. Again, I'm skipping the final classes, and so we skip to after school. I watch as the clock ticks and the time seems to slow down so minutes seem like hours, Finally the clock hits 2 o'clock and the bell rings. I grab my already packed stuff and run out of the class, I run down the crowded halls and to my locker 53493 I put in the combination and shove my books in. Immedietly I close the locker door and hurry outside with my skateboard, once I'm outside I get on and skate to the dojo, once there I jump off of my board and grab my gi out of my locker. I head into the changing rooms and ya know change and when I get out I see the guys and Kim and *sigh* Donovan, I walk over to them with a smile "hey guys!" I greet and they all greet back. I look at Donovan with a curious expression on my face "you do karate?" I ask and Kim bursts out laughing while he only smirks "oh I know a little somethin'" he says. He starts to move to the mat and Kim follows behind closely "no going easy, ok?" he asks and Kim nods. Kim gets into position "ok a good clean fight" she says "hashimo!" Donovan yells and throws a kick which Kim blocks and twist-flips him but he lands and flips her but she gets up. She catches her breath "ha!" he yells and punches for Her stomach but she blocks and throws a punch herself which he catches and flips her. He bows and walks over to her "your getting better. One day you might even beat me" he says slightly breathless "thanks" she says, he holds out his hand and she grabs it pulling herself up. They walk over with smiles "ok so you know a little somethin' about karate" Rudy says and he raises an eyebrow "a little?" he asks and Rudy nods, Kim sighs and grumbles to herself softly. He walks over to the mat and does a perfected back-flip and flying dragon kick "I'm a student" he says and Rudy motions for him to continue "of the Otai academy" he finishes with a smile and Kim nods. Rudy's eyes widen aswell as the rest of the guys' "so Kim did you think a little more about the offer?" Donovan asks and she smiles "tell them that I accept but only after I graduate" she says and he nods. Rudy walks over to him and taps his shoulder "what are you talking about?" he asks as Donovan turns around "oh my master offered her a scholarship" he says and Kim shrugs "Kim why don't you show them your skills with weapons?" he recommends and tosses her a Katana which she desheaths and uses like a master. My jaw drops as Donovan throws her another already desheathed and she grabs it in mid-air and brings it into the routine like a pro. Once she stops she puts the katanas back and walks over to us happily as if nothing happened "so I'm not that far behind Jack" she says smirking "yet he still went to the Junior martial arts championships" Jerry mumbles under his breath but is cut off when a throwing star lands beside his head in the wall. We all look to Kim who has a smirk and a hand outstretched "never insult a weapons specialist" she tells him and he nods ferociously with a very scared expression on his face. Kim walks over and pulls the throwing star out from the wall "good shot by the way" Donovan remarks with an impressed look "you were atleast aiming to miss" he says and takes it from her, twirling it between his fingers. I watch as it goes in-between, over, in-between again and under before stopping between his forefinger and thumb and then drop it on the counter, without me noticing he had moved to the counter. Kim suddenly jumps up "I forgot! You have to be home by 3 and it's 2:45!" she yells to Donovan and he runs to her gives her a quick hug and kiss on the cheek and leaves hurriedly. Once he's gone she smiles at us "Kim why didn't you tell us?" Rudy asks "you never asked" she says plainly and he sighs knowing that he can't argue with that "I asked you what weapon you know and you didn't fill in" he says, hoping that he got her but she just smirks "it was optional" she says and walks away into the changing rooms. Rudy stares after her with a stumped expression "wow, she really has all her bases covered" Milton remarks and I nod. I'm not really that shocked since I knew not to expect anything normal or expected from her a long time ago, well accualy since the first day she joined our dojo and knocked down 3 dummies in like 5 seconds. Kim also always has a plan to cover up for any mistakes she might make or secrets exposed so it's impossible to accualy trick her without very decent planning and advanced prankery. Even Jerry can't get her no matter how much he tries and that is saying something considering that he can get every teacher in school to cry at lunch and every substitute to date quit because of all his antics. I smile at the guys still shocked faces and they finally snap out of it with a start "what the...?" Eddie mumbles "WOW! And I thought she was hot when she wasn't acting smug" he mumbles to himself and that makes my smile drop almost instantly. Truth be told I just want to tell him that she is mine but I can't because she isn't and I won't claim for her to be mine when she isn't. I put another smile on my face but it's too late, Milton already noticed and slapped Jerry on the back of the head "Jerry! You know that Jack and Kim have chemistry!" he says. Jerry turns to me with a scared expression "sorry yo!" he yells and I roll my eyes "yeah they have chemistry!" Eddie says tauntingly, making kissy faces at me but I just sigh and shake my head in denial. They all just look at me accusingly "you 2 have GOT to get together already!" Milton yells loudly and my eyes widen, Kim has great hearing... "We are best friends!" I hear Kim yell from the changing rooms and I sigh. Milton's eyes widen aswell as Eddie and Jerry's "no-one has that good hearing" Milton says softly almost as if scared of Kim hearing him and I laugh at the comical expression on his face. He looks at me as if I'm a sheep in the middle of a wolf pack, half confused but mostly worried in a sense of 'I worry about you sometimes' but then I notice that he's looking at Jerry who is trying to roll his eyes backward and not me. Now I understand why he looks like that; he worries about Jerry and worrying about Jerry's mental health is a full time job with extra shifts. Kim walks out of the changing rooms in her gi and walks straight to our weapons shelf, she observes the weapons but eventually shakes her head and walks over to her locker. She opens her locker and hits the side of it with her fist and a drawer pops open from it, she then pulls the entire drawer out and sets it down on the counter in it there is a bunch of knives, throwing stars, katanas and every other weapon I can imagine. She looks over the things in the drawers and frowns then walks back to her locker and pulls something out the back which I then see is a sword. Donovan then comes back in "I told my mom that I'm helping you with your kata" he says and Kim nods "I do need a little more practice with the heian shodan anyway" she tells him and he nods. I turn to Rudy confused and he just stares at them wide-eyed "you know the heian shodan?" he asks in an extremely high, shocked voice and they both nod with duh expressions on their faces "of course we know the heian shodan. We are either going to the otai academy or are already in it" Donovan says. Rudy ahh's and looks like he finally understands, Kim rolls her eyes puts down the sword and bows "OS" Donovan says and bows while Kim bows aswell "youi" he says and she gets into the first position "hashimo" he says and stepps off the mat. She does the Kata Almost perfectly and Donovan only corrects her a few times and when he does I feel jealousy rise in my throat but choke it down. I watch as Kim does her last shatowaki block and bow in finish "I did it!" she cheers happily, Donovan picks her up and spins her around, kissing her cheek and setting her down softly "I told you, you could do it" he tells her and she she smiles even wider. I clench my jaw when I see him kiss her cheek a second time but he lingers a little too long in my opinion but the guys don't seem to think so since they all smirk but it drops once they see me and they look kinda conflicted. I roll my eyes and loosen up even though I still want to tell him off, tell him that Kim is my girl and that he can't have her - but that would be a lie, I want it to be true but it isn't, it's a lie none the less.
