Chapter 1:

28 1 0

(A/N: How the "What are the odds" game works:
Someone asks you what are the odds for a certain act. You give them odds, say 10/1 for example. Your guess must be a number between one and the total, in this case 10. You count to three and both state your number. The convention is if you land on the same number, or the two numbers add up to the original total, the person to whom the game was proposed undertakes the task that was set out from the off.)

"It's the most random Thursday ever and I have a shit ton of things to do. Do we really have to go now? It's so crowded in here." I grumbled.

"Hey, quit whining okay! And don't act like I don't know you, Missy. You're just gonna watch K dramas all day anyway."

"Okay, okay. Fine!"

Waiting 30 minutes for the train is not easy especially with Elly constantly buzzing at my ears. She says it's my duty to join her as her best friend but she's just to much of a ninny to go on her own.

"It's here!" She screeches at me as I turn to look at the arriving train. We stood up from our seats in the waiting area and managed to squeeze ourselves inside before the large mass of short tempered rush hour goers started to pile in on the train.

But much to our dismay, we were stuck in a standing position that's not entirely favorable with loads of books in my hands and a loud Elly beside me talking about everything and nothing.

"Anyway, have you found any job openings yet?" Elly said and I shook my head in reply.

"Ugh. Not yet? You've been looking all month."

It hasn't been exactly really easy peasy to find myself a job after my boss from our local bakery fired me. And ever since, I've been constantly in a battle to land myself a steady job. Being 23 and jobless sucks, trust me.

"No worries hun, I'll try and help." She says. "But for the meantime, how about having a little fun." She smirks.

Oh no, not good. Kelly never settles for anything little, she likes it big if you know what I mean.

"Let's play a game of what are the odds!"

"Um, no. It's way to tight in here to even do anything!" I say.

"Oh trust me on this Mau, let's just play, okay?" She smiles at me, mind you, it's in a creepy way. She then surveys the entirety of the train, not failing to raise her on-fleek brows at the sight of all the zombie-like passengers. After a few seconds, she finally speaks.

"What are the odds of you asking for those guy's numbers over there?" She beams triumphantly while pointing to a corner with her perfectly manicured finger. I turn to see two guys a good six chairs away from where we were standing, talking with each other.

I would expect Elly to do something like this, she's always trying to set us up with guys. And from where I was looking, they definitely didn't look bad at all. Plus they looked like the perfect examples of Elly's ideal type or target, whichever you prefer.

"One to fifty?" I say and she gives me the face. The one where she is partly annoyed and partly amused at me. Elly is pretty, but when she does this face she just goes from cute to cash me outside real quick its scary.

"Oh c'mon Mau, live a little! How about one to ten?" She says

I honestly don't know if I can even trust this girl because the last time she said "live a little" I broke half my arm.
