Chapter 17: Homecoming

BACK TO RILEYS POV

We ran through the woods and Daryl was helping Ryan who was hurt. We finally reached the horses where Daryl and Ryan tied them up.

"You brought Rebel and Lady?" I asked them

"Yeah they were quieter than a car." Ryan said

"Come let's go." Ryan said after climbing on Lady.

Daryl then climbed on Rebel and pulled me up behind him. We turned the horses around and headed back toward the prison. We came running up to the prison gates. I then hopped off Rebel and opened and closed the gates. Then climbing back him as Ryan and Daryl steered them toward the cell barn. They had finally built barns and pens for the chickens, pigs, and all the cows. They had made a garden and had a small area for the horses to eat grass at. But they were still kept inside the cell block. After we unsaddled the two horses we put them in there cells and gave them hay. We walked back to the main cell block helping Ryan gimp on his foot.

"Hersel?" Daryl called

"Daryl your back did you find.....Riley!" Hershel said coming and giving me a hug. And by that time everyone was happy and saying 'your back' or 'we missed you' and stuff like that

"Thanks guys but Hershel can you look at Ryan's foot he hurt it pretty bad." I said

"Yeah come into my doctoring cell we'll take a look and fix ya up." Hershel said

Ryan then gimped away with Hershel. While I walked up to mine and Daryl's cell. I walked in a flopped on our bed.

"Hey Riley Rick said they made a shower in the back room."Daryl said

"Oooo that sounds great!" I said

"Get some clothes I'll go down with ya for protection." Daryl said

"Okay be out in a sec." I said walking toward the dresser.

I opened the drawers and grabbed my light denim skinny jeans. I then grabbed my under clothes and a red button up shirt. I stuffed everything in a bag along with my hair and tooth brush and tooth paste. Then I walked out of the cell and told Daryl I was ready to go. After walking down to the showers I hopped in and Daryl stayed outside side waiting on me. It felt good to have a shower. I was clean and free of dirt and blood. My hair and body smelled good and fresh. I felt human again. God it felt good! I finished my shower and stepped outside and dried myself off. I then got dressed and was buttoning my shirt. I then tied the bottom of my shirt up above my belly button showing of my piercing. It was to hot to wear it all the way buttoned and long sleeve. So I rolled the sleeves up to my elbow.

"I'm finished" I called to Daryl who came walking in

"Mmmm you smell good." He said

"I picked some perfume on a few of our runs." I told him as we headed back upstairs.

"Makes you feel human again doesn't it?" Hershel said

"Yeah it does." I smiled "How's Ryan?"

"He twisted it pretty bad but he'll be fine in a few days." Hershel said

"That's good." I said walking outside

I walked outside and toward the fences. I walked around the garden and the pigs and cows. I then headed to the barn. I opened the door and saw Carrel who was in Lady's stall petting and talking to her. Reminded me of me I always talk to them. My parents always said I had a gift with horses. Which I believed at times.

"Hey" I said making Carrel jump

"Hey you scared me" He said

"You wanna ride her?" I asked him

"Yes!" He beamed

"Go in the back of my Camero there is a smaller saddle in there I found on my last run. I picked it up for you." I told him

"Okay be right back thanks!" He said running to my car. Meanwhile I haltered Lady and lead her out of her cell and tied her up. By that time Carrel had shown up with the saddle.

"Nice job now set the saddle down and go get that blanket in the corner and the brown bridle." I instructed him

"Here." He said bringing back the stuff

"Okay now watch me carefully." I said to him

I then taught him to saddle a horse and bridle it. "Okay hop on up here. You take your right hand and put it on the back of the saddle and your left on the horn. Then out your left foot in the stirrup and swing your right leg over to the other side. Okay got it." I said

"Yup." Carrel said doing as I said

"Good job now pull your feet out of the stirrups so I can adjust them to fit you." I said

"There put your feet back in and like your heels down." I said and he did as he was told

"Perfect now grab your reins in one hand and the horn in your other hand." I said

"Like this?" he asked

"Good just sit up straight." I instructed

"You ready to go outside and try riding her?" I asked

"Yeah." He replied

"Okay" I said unclipping her halter so she just had a bridle on and lead her and Carrel outside. "Now just walk her in a circle." "Good job" I told Carrel as he rode Lady

"I'm doing it I'm doing it." He said excitedly

"Okay good job you can walk her around inside the inside fence at a walk and then unsaddle her when your done okay." I said

"Okay couch!" Carrel said laughing

"Have fun!" I said walking back inside

I walked up to the roof and sat beside Daryl who was watching me teach Carrel to ride.

"Your amazing." He said

"What do you mean?" I asked

"You are so helpful and caring and a good teacher, leader, friend and helper. Your just a great person." He said smiling at me

"Well thank you." I said
