I woke up outside my house on the bench in the garden. I woke to see my dog, Lily pad, (Lily for short) was licking my face. She was a smart dog and knew I had to get to school before my dad woke up. I, hurriedly, changed into normal looking jeans, a baby blue long sleeved shirt plus my jacket, and my worn-out sneakers. It was 95 degrees out, but last night, while I was tending with my 5 month old baby sister named Darcy and my dad came, not drunk but had a faint smell of alcohol. He was bored and decided to beat me for fun. I would've left right when mom did, but no I stayed for Darcy like mom should've. She was hit at times, but I would usually yell at my dad to leave her alone. I needed him to leave her alone, I was making him mad at me to take attention off of her. It always works I make sure it does. I ran inside, going straight for Darcy's room. She was wide awake and looked as if she's been crying for hours. I smiled as she reached for me. I picked her up and changed her clothes. She saw her flower headband and whined for it. I put it on her head and she clapped her tiny hands. I propped her on my hip, taking her into the living room, so I could grab my backpack. I was going to drop off Darcy at daycare and go to my new school. This had been the 5th school in a year, and it was only August. We, always, moved when teachers or people ask about my bruises and marks. I always lied to skip a beating. We, sometimes but rarely, moved when I began making friends. But, it was hard to make friends, when they think you're a mute freak or deaf. I walked out with Darcy propped up on my hip. I took Darcy about a block down the street to her new daycare. As I walked up to the daycare, I pulled up my hoodie. I had a bruise from where my dad hit me the night before. Before I knocked on the door, Darcy pushed the door bell. I looked at Darcy in shock that she would do that, all she did was smile with her two teeth showing and giggle. She clapped as the door open and a teenage boy stood there. He looked like a Greek god, but he didn't seem to care or notice me. He was busy smiling and playing with Darcy. She was an adorable baby with her dark brown hair and her greyish brown eyes. He, finally, looked at me and smiled. It was sort of a sad smile. I saw that he was hiding something in his eyes they looked sad and miserable as if he were gonna cry
"Hello, you must be Darcy's mother. Her father told us about Darcy yesterday over the phone. Welcome to town. I heard you had a 16 year-old daughter named Constance. I hope to meet her at Ridelywood High school.", he said, nearly frowning. I couldn't help but to stare at him. I pulled my eyes for his gaze. I had just realized what he had said and shook my head no at him. I turned a little to show him that I was wearing a school backpack. He didn't understand until about three minutes later.
"Oh, sorry. I didn't realize you were Constance.", he said, his mood changing from sad to endlessly happy. Is this dude bipolar or something? I shrugged it off, not really caring.
"Well, Constance. Do you want me to drop you off at school? I'll be going in a few minutes.", he said as 5 people walked out. 2 boys and 3 girls. I looked at them all with faint curiosity.
"Oh those are my brothers and sisters. The 2 blonde ones are Sadie and Sara, twins. The brown haired one, texting away on her phone, is Raine.", he said as Raine let out a grunt of frustration.
"Jeremy is such a jerk! He's ignoring me! Again! I can't believe him! He does this every time!", she shouted at no one in particular. She must've felt us looking at her, because she slowly lifter her gaze from her phone and gently laughed. She looked embarrassed.
"Sorry. I feel bad for my outburst.", she said, she, all of a sudden, looked at me in confusion. "Who's the new girl? Did she just walk up?"
"No, she's been here. Harrison was introducing us, you doof.", the red haired boy said, sounding aggravated at Raine's behavior. He looked back over to, who I now knew his name, Harrison and gave him and encouraging smile.
"That's Louis and the black haired one, who is now all the way across the street talking to Sammie, is Carlos.", he said, pointing at a black haired boy trying to get a dark brownish black haired girls attention. I nodded, slightly. He must've forgotten about Darcy, who was trying to eat her fist.
"Oh yea, sorry.", he said, as he took Darcy and disappeared into the house. I shrugged my backpack higher up on my shoulder and began walking away from the daycare, when I felt someone grabbed my wrist. It made all my nerves jolt. I turned to see Harrison holding my wrist.
"I thought I was taking you to school." I, quickly, shook my head no at him. I tug at my wrist as it started to hurt. But, he didn't budge. I ripped my wrist from his grip. He looked stunned and shocked as I started walking away. He didn't make any attempt to catch up with me. He has got to be insane. He may might not know I'm mute. Well, not technically mute, just forbidden to talk around anyone else.

I approached school with looks of shock and disgust. I would too, if I were the. I walked to the front office to get my schedule. I walked into the office and stood there, waiting for the lady at the front desk to come back. As soon as she was about to pass by the desk. I knocked on the wall to get her attention. She stopped and looked shocked, so I gave her a tiny embarrassed smile. I felt my cheeks heat up.
"Oh, are you Constance Mills?", she asked, reading off of a paper. I nodded with a small smile. "If you need any help, come up here and I'll have someone show you around.", she said, handing me paper. I waved bye and walked out looking at my paper. The first class was Biology. I went to my locker and stuffed my binders and a few notebooks into it. I closed the locker door, and walked away
"Hey, Connie!", It was Sadie and Sara talking in unison. I began walking faster, making a bee-line for Biology. I didn't want to talk to Them, afraid of what my dad would do. The pain became an everyday thing, not hurting as badly as before, I was afraid of what he would do to Darcy. He found out just a month ago that the pain didn't bother me, him hurting Darcy made me cringe and cry. When Sadie and Sara appeared in front of me, blocking my path to class. I rolled my eyes, and tried to get past them as they locked arms. I crossed my arms.
"Girls, get into class!", the teacher yelled as he saw us. They jumped in shock as I pushed past them and went to the back of the class and sat. The desk's were made for 2, so I put my backpack in the seat next to me. I began to scribble in my notebook, when I felt and saw a shadow above me.
