I feel the breeze blow against my face. The sweet smell of coffee from the local coffee shop fills the streets. The evening was a colder one than usual and not many people were out and about. Leaves float down to the ground from some nearby trees. Checking my phone is a usual thing for me. But not today. Instead that checking consistently for some certain reason was for someone else. That someone else was clearly not paying attention to where they are heading and slam right into the side of my shoulder. A sharp pain shoots through my arm. Mainly from the cold breeze but also because I had just finished having surgery on it about a month ago. It was still sore and hard for me to move... but it was getting better.
"Ohmigod! I'm so sorry. I wasn't paying attention! Alright?"
"Yeah I'm good thanks"
I look up... only to see a man. Not like any other man though. He looked quite young. His blue eyes are what caught my attention first. They sparkled. Not like one of those romantic kind of ways. But in a way to where he looked almost perfect. He was perfect. He tipped up his glasses to keep them from falling off his face. He smiled... beautifully.
I smile back of course... who wouldn't?
" did I hurt your shoulder?" His eyebrows wrinkle a bit with a concern look.
" yeah. I'll be fine though." And I had to introduce myself. I HAVE to let him know who I am. " I'm Heather."
"Asa" he stretches his Arm to reach out to mine. We touch. We shake. We leave. It felt wrong to leave without knowing if I would ever see him again. Life isn't fair.
That night. Going home seemed like it took forever. It was hard to concentrate on anything I was doing that day after meeting Asa. Sleeping was even harder. All I can and could think about was him. His smile. I slowly fall asleep. Dreaming of my usual nightmare of what had happened to me.
"..... NO" I jump up from my bed. My heart... pounding out of my chest and my head aching from the frustration. Touching the cold, hard wooden floor, i get up and make breakfast. After eating some pancakes, I get dressed. My favorite thing about getting up in the morning is the cool breeze and the freshness. Stepping outside and starting towards the elevator of my apartment complex, I see... Asa... walking into out of the room two rooms down. My eyes widen and I fix my hair. I was nervous. I didn't want to see him right now and my stomach turned. I turn quick and jump into the elevator as fast as I could.
"Hold for me?" He runs up to the door.
Oh no. I didn't want this to happen. I have no choice now though. So, I put my hand out and stop the door from closing.
Asa smiles that (as usual) perfect smile.
" Heather? I didn't notice that was you. You live in this building too?"
"Yep. Room 313"
" wow. Two down from mine! 315"
I have to pretend to be surprised " no way!"
" yeah way! We should hang out sometime"
I nodd and smile " yeah we should"
He asks if tomorrow night at 7:00 was alright and well... obviously I said yes.
What did I do? Gotten myself into liking someone again... which was FAR from what I wanted to happen.
