Chapter 13: The Whole Brother-Sister Affection Thing.

Ryan’s POV:

“It’s nice to see you too.” she said sarcastically, leaning on my door frame, “Aren’t you going to invite me in?”

“Actually Melissa, I was just about to head out… so…” I told her, trying to hint at the whole “you aren’t welcome here after you basically killed my sister” thing.

“Oh that’s alright, It’ll just take a minute.” Melissa said try trying to push past me, "So where are you going anyways?" she asked after she finally realised that I wasn’t going to let her in.

"None of your business, bye now"

"No wai-" she started to say as I closed and locked the door before heading up to my room again with tears welling in my eyes. I hate that girl. So much.

I faintly heard her say, "You can't hide from me forever Ryan."

Knowing Melissa she wasn’t going to leave in a long time, so it would be better if I just stayed home for a while. Ugh… Melissa.

Lynsey’s POV:

After Payton left, I didn’t have visitors for a while. My mom was working a lot to try and pay for the medical bills that were going to be coming her way, my brother was visiting some of his old buddies who came home from college, and well I don’t know about anyone else.

The Doctor came in around eleven to just sit down and talk with me about stuff. The major stuff was that they were going to try and get me discharged tomorrow and he told me I would have to take it easy for a long time. This meant no gym, no dance, and basically no fun. He also told me everything that was wrong with me. He used a lot of long, medical words and it was SO confusing. He basically just gave me the “dumb”version at the end (which he really should have just started with), he said that I had broken my wrist, fractured three of my ribs (that’s why I got dizzy, had headaches, coughed up some blood, and why it hurt to breath sometimes), I also had a whole bunch of cuts and bruises all over, stitches, and of course a bone in my right leg was fractured but it’s nondisplaced, which he says is better than if it was displaced or if it was an open fracture. At least that’s what I got out of the conversation.

After talking to him for a while he got up and left telling me to keep my leg elevated and to keep the giant ice pack he had given me on it. Oh and one more thing, I would have to be in a wheelchair for a while. He doesn’t know how long because there is a different range for everyone. It depends on a bunch of stuff like how serious the injury is, how fast it heals etc., so he couldn’t really give me a time window.

A wheelchair… how great.

When he left I turned on my favorite television show, Castle, and fell asleep hoping that I would be discharged tomorrow and everything would be okay.

Payton’s POV:

My brother picked me up after I signed my release forms because there was no way in hell that I was going to drive, plus my car is totalled and my arm is in a sling so… it is basically just out of the question for a while.

I got into the passenger side, “Hey Daniel, thanks for picking me up.”

“No problem.” he said looking over at me before starting the car up and driving out of the parking lot slowly. His eyes were really bloodshot and he looked insanely sleep deprived. I hope that he’s okay.

There was such an awkward silence for a couple minutes before Daniel spoke up again.

“So Pay, how ya feeling?” he took his eyes off the road to look over at me for a second before turning back.

“Alright I guess, thanks.” I smiled. My brother could be a pain in my ass sometimes, but I mean he is my older brother. Well older by like two minutes, but he never does let me forget about those 120 seconds.

We stayed silent for the rest of the ride to our house, the music just softly playing in the background. We never really were good at the whole “affection” thing.

He parked the car in the driveway and got out; I did the same, but when I got out I felt a sharp pain in my ribs and fell down to my knees, crying a little and holding my side.

Within seconds my brother was right in front of me holding me in a soft hug, “It’s okay Payton. You’re okay, let’s get you inside.”

I was basically bawling on his shoulder next, not completely about the pain in my side, but also because everything was just so overwhelming and I just needed to let it out, I guess.

In one swift motion I was in my brother’s grasp and he was carrying me to the house as I wrapped my legs around his waist and I put my good arm around his neck. I kept my head on his shoulder still crying. Daniel brought me into the living room and sat me down on the couch. I wiped the tears from my eyes as he sat down by my side and looked over at me, grabbing my hand. “You’ll be okay Payton, alright? I promise. I’m here for you. And always will be.” He had such a sincere look on his face, one that made me feel like he’d protect me from everyone and everything and that he would be with me through every single thing that I go through. It made me feel so safe. I stopped crying and nodded. He gripped my hand a little bit tighter before smiling and saying, “How about your big brother makes you some Mac & Cheese?”.

“Yeah.” I said. He got up to go and make it and as soon as he was out of sight a giant smile appeared on my face, maybe we are good at the whole brother-sister affection thing.
