The Girl, the Prince, and the Pauper

Once open a time in a kingdom far away lived a handsome prince who was loved by all the girls of the kingdom. They all wish to be noticed by the prince himself and as well to be loved by him. Every time he walked by the girls, his charm seamed to enchant the girls hearts. One day, a local village girl was taking a stroll down the village and when she noticed the prince said

“Oh how handsome the prince is.”

She was so captivated by the handsome prince but thought to herself,

“oh how could he love me back while those girls are elegant and beautiful, I am just a poor girl in the village. What do I have to offer him? While those girls can provide the beauty and charm that the prince would want I am plain and simple.”

She sighed and walked away from the town square though with the still lingering crushing ache in her heart.

All the while there was a boy next door who was a pauper who had a developed a crush as well. He had developed a crush on the poor girl whom he had known since the days she was a child. When her family would run low on food, the pauper and his family would often provide as much as they could. Although poor he worked his hardest to make sure the ones around him were fine and had enough of what they needed in their lives. Even though the pauper loved her, she did not notice of his love for her because of the crush she had on the prince. Every day she would go into the village hoping the prince would notice her and love her the way she loved him, but to no avail. Either the prince would just pass by and she would go unnoticed or another girl had already caught the princes eye. After many failed attempts of getting the princes attention and the love that she wanted, she fled to the forest and cried in the middle of the forest and said.

“I just cant get the princes attention and love that I want. I would do anything to gain his love and attention that my heart desires.”

Meanwhile unknown to her in that forest there was an angel known as cupid who would shoots arrows at peoples hearts and makes them fall in love with each other. One day he was flying in the forest doing his thing a usual when he noticed the young village girl crying in the middle of the forest. When he heard her anguished cries for love he approached her and asked “what is your hearts desire?”

Startled by him she asked, “who are you, I never seen you before.”

“My name is Cupid. And I make people fall in love. I see that you have hearts desire don’t you?”

The girl responded” yes I do have a hearts desire”

Cupid asked the girl” then what is your hearts desire?”

The girl then responded” my hearts desire is the prince of this very kingdom and for him to love me the way I do”

Cupid responded” very well I will grant you your hearts desire, but I must warn you things wont always go the way you think. Be careful what you wish for.”

The girl then accepted her wish and returned to the village feeling happy that she would finally get the love from the prince that she always wanted.

The next day the girl again walked to the village to see if her wish came true. The prince was looking from his castle were he can see from the outskirts of the village and saw the girl and immediately fell in love with her because of what cupid had done to him the night before. He then went down to the village and said.

“My lady I don’t know why but I am completely enchanted by you and want to make you my wife. I was to be married to a girl named Cinderella but now I have forgotten why I ever loved her. My heart belongs completely to you!” exclaimed the prince
“But I am just a simple girl who lives in the village with hardly anything”, responded the girl.

“I will buy you the finest silk purple dresses of royalty, emeralds and pearls, and eat the finest meats in all the kingdom!” replied the prince.

“But my favorite color is yellow and I don’t eat meats. I eats mainly fruits and vegetables.” said the girl

“But you shall dress and eat like royalty from now on...not like a poor girl anymore “replied the prince.

The next day the prince went out and bought her a nice pretty purple dress for her to wear and when he saw the girl he said

“here is the purple dress I bought you would you like to put it on and see how you look” asked the prince. But the girl replied “But that is not my favorite color I wanted.”

“But I think purple will look good on you” said the prince

“But its not what I wanted” said the girl.

During her time with the prince he bought her many things that she didn’t want or need.

“Yes its very beautiful but I don’t want it.” the girl would try to explain to the prince.

“Nonsense, no lady of mine will dress or eat as a plain simple girl!” the prince would reply.

Even though he bought her many gifts she began to wonder of he really loved her for herself or because of Cupid's arrow. She asked herself, “Does he truly love me the way I love him. He has different interests and ideas of what and how I should be and even though he gives me many things I still don’t feel that he truly does love me unless I were a different person. We don’t really know each other at all and we come from different worlds were he has his likes and I have mine. Its a false love that was forced upon him by the magic of Cupid's arrow fulfilling my foolish wishes.

She was troubled over her prince and what to do. The pauper noticed she was sad. “Whats wrong my lady?” he asked. She told him of how she loved the prince but was having doubts. She told him about all the gifts and how the prince had different expectations of her and didn’t really know her. The pauper listened carefully and said “Silver and gold I have none but I would bring you yellow flowers everyday. Feed you strawberries to your hearts desires as I know they are your favorite. You don’t have to change anything about yourself, you are beautiful just the way you are!” She realized that this pauper who she had known her whole life was the kindest, hard working, and very handsome as well man she had ever known. She had been so afraid she would never be loved and he had been there all along. She realized that this was real love, not the false one she had tried to force on the prince.

So the girl decided to go into the forest to find Cupid and have the wish undone.

The girl strolled into the forest “Cupid! Cupid!,” shouted the girl. She shouted for Cupid again until he heard her call and asked

“Are your hearts desire working for you?” asked Cupid

“No” replied the girl.

Then she continued” He doesn’t truly love me the way I loved him and really does not know who I am. He loves who he wish I was but is blinded by your magic to see that he doesn’t love the real me.”

Cupid replied” Yes I can make people become enchanted with each other but true love comes from two willing hearts. I can undo the wish, but once I do he will go back and realize that he has loved someone else. Would you like your hearts desire undone?”

The girl then said” Yes please, I don’t want magic, I want love but only if its real.”

The girl then went to the village sad that she had lost her prince but knowing she had done the right thing. She wondered if she would ever fall in love again. She then realized that even though he did not truly love her she knew someone who did. She found that it was the pauper who truly loved her. He would often be there for her when she needed him the most and although he did not have much to offer her he would do anything to make sure she was happy and provide as best as he could.

During the night cupid flew into the castle and shot his anti-love arrows to fulfill the girls wish and undo the love of the prince. The next day when the prince woke up and suddenly realized that he didn’t love the girl and remembered that he loved someone else. He quickly asked Cinderella for her hand in marriage and they live happily ever after. And so everyone remembers the story of Cinderella but nobody realizes that there was another girl who also loved the prince but gave him up for the pauper. The girl and the pauper also got married and lived happily ever after! The End.
