Cranberry and Hairdye

I trip over inside the bathroom.
I look in the mirror and see a girl; she's not very interesting. I wouldn't say she was pretty but she's not unattractive either.
Her jawline is square and masculine and her hair is cut short like a boys.
I suppose, shes pretty in her own way.

I look away from the mirror and open the cupboard under the sink. I scan the shelf and pick up a box of pink hair dye.
I carelessly lather it through my hair, staining my hands pink in the process.

I sit on the toilet lid and pick up the book that Ally has left in the bathroom. Its a classic, Alice's adventures in wonderland.
Something Id never bothered reading, but suddenly I was intrigued.
I thumbed through the pages.
"Of all the strange things that Alice saw in her journey.... "
Time raced by and I soon found that it was time to wash the dye out of my shaggy hair .
I stumbled into the shower and turn the taps, making hot water rain onto my bare skin.

I quickly rinse the dye out of my hair; i enjoyed watching the pink water run down my skin and flow into the plug hole.
Grabbing the closest shower gel , I poured it out into my hands and began to wash. The smell of the soap was so powerful that I sneezed but it was instantly recognisable as cranberry.Ally's favourite.

When i had deemed myself clean, I climbed out of the shower and pulled a big fluffy towel around me.
I dried myself off and wrapped it around me, covering most of my body, not that it mattered.
I went back into the bedroom and found Ally still in bed, hidden under the covers like a child playing hide and seek.
I gently lift the covers to see her tired face and I kiss her forehead.
"Are you leaving?" She mourners, half asleep again.
"In a few minutes"
"Oh" she looks at me "I love you, have a good day"
I smile at this, she knows I cant stand  my job.
I begin to dress and i reply with a simple "I doubt it"

When im ready to go, Ally swings her legs out of the bed and beckons me over to her.
"Is today the day?" She asks, wrapping an arm around me
"I think so" i reply. Im vaguely aware of a tremble in my voice andAlly seems to notice. She pulls me into the bed and we are soon wrapped in a close embrace. All my worries suddenly disappear and I feel infinitely better. She senses this and pulls away, kisses me and gently nudges me.
"Youll be late if you dont leave now"
"I know, but i really hate leaving you"
"Ill be fine, " she sings " i always am"
"Ill call you" i say
"I know"

I get up and start to leave
"i love you" i yell
" i love you too" she calls back.
"Dont do anything stupid"

I unlock the door and leave our flat. Its cold outside and the warm happy feeling that Ally had installed in me disappeared quickly as i walked to work.There was a bad feeling in my gut.
But then again, wasnt that feeling always there?
