Chapter 1: Separated

Len Kagamine is a lost soul. Ever since his childhood, he has seemed himself incomplete. His mother, bless the woman, tried everything in her power to keep him from straying to the thoughts of wondering why he seemed so empty. She knew the answer, but each time the topic struck part with her beloved son, she burst into a fit of lonely tears.

Len Kagamine is a lost soul, now wandering the lands in search of fulfillment. He has no such desire in proving himself to anyone, or trying to find a reason as to why he feel he is but a half.

     Half full.

     Half empty.

     Half discovered.

Young Len, striking at the ripe age of fourteen, wanders these lands in search of fulfillment, his other half. With his light golden hair tied back in a small ponytail, eyes as blue as the skies, and a handsome young face, no one would ever assume what he really was. A half. An incomplete man.

Len walked through town after town, forest after forest, danger after danger, with only three things that mattered to him. His sword, which had protected him through many a danger. His beloved 'music note' pendant, which he kept ever since he was a mere infant. And his voice, which could enlighten even the worst of misers. His voice was sometimes his savior, for he would occasionally sing in town squares in order to earn money for a small warm dinner to feed his poor stomach.

However lost Len's soul happened to be, it was also a brave one. Covered with the naivete of a child, his soul showed to be a great weapon. Purity was his other sword, in which allowed his alluring voice to be so full of gentleness and sincerity.

Things pursued to continue in such order for Len: singing, fighting, surviving. Things didn't seem to be looking up.

Until, that is, that fate decided to give young Len a chance.

Upon wandering through forests, Len came across an object shining in the distance. Walking closer, he discovered that it was a pendant. He looked from his own pendant to the one that lay before him. They were identical. They were not exactly congruent in shape, but rather, in spirit.

Curiosity finally got the better of him, and he carefully picked the mysterious necklace up from the forest floor. He inspected it closer, taking in its familiarity, even though he had never seen the likes of it, other than his own. He had asked his mother many a times of the story of his pendant. Every time, her story remained the same. His necklace was hand-crafted. But, it also had a sister. After admitting each time, his poor mother would precede to weep, as she had many times before.

Reality came back to Len, and he studied the necklace with new interest.

Could this be my pendant's sister that mother was talking about? Len wondered. He felt drawn to the new 'lace. He quickly became insistent that he keep it with him from now on.

He pressed it to his lips, and kissed it like it were able to understand how much Len admired it. Upon doing so, Len was sent into a sudden state of unconsciousness. He opened his dream-state eyes, only to find his trance self in an alien cavern. He looked 'round, and saw that the walls to the cave were filled with crystals of all sorts, glowing with enchantments. The walls were ridiculously high, and the only exit Len could spot was many lengths away up above.

A snore erupted from behind the poor boy, and he quickly whipped his head in the direction of such. There before him, his eyes widened frighteningly and his jaw dropped at the sight in which he saw. He stared at the the sight of a sleeping beast.

Large, scaly, and brown, there laid the dragon that he had only heard rumors about. Known as the King of Kings, this beast struck fear into the hearts of all believers. Len had always thought the tale of this grand beast was only a story parents told their children to scare them.

But here Len stood, completely in shock of the honor, or rather horror, of standing in front of such a creature. The King of Kings. Len stood, unmoving, afraid that the beast would awake if he dared move a muscle.

Len wondered of how he would be able to break free of this subconscious realm, when his ears picked up sound of a faint voice, singing in the distance. The voice entranced him, made him willingly sink into pleasure. His own hearing could not seem to get enough of the voice. Even so, the voice seemed... familiar.

"Let my voice be carried by wind and spirit,

let the timid life-livers become no longer able to fear it.

Let my voice become your loving, hungering feast,

let my voice guide you to my dwelling in the east."

The mysterious voice continued singing, until the point where Len could not resist singing along. Their beautiful voices harmonized wonderfully, and the song became louder, and more important. Len finally realized that this song had a meaning. A very important one, at that.

Len turned himself around, and finally faced the enchanting vocalist. He ended to face a young girl, 'round his own age, with light golden hair that reached just above her perfectly pale shoulders, eyes as blue as the skies, and a beautiful face that very much resembled Len's own face. Len figured this could be no mere coincidence, so why did he feel like he should know this girl?

Len could feel a hot breath on his neck, so he carefully swiveled his head around, only to come face to face with the King. The dragon had awoken.

Before Len had a chance to scream, his senses finally came back to him, and he was whisked away from his day-dream, and brought back to the earth. His brow furrowed, and he quickly pocketed the necklace in which he had previously acquired from the forest floor.

Len sighed a great deal. "I think it best if I not mention this to anyone."

And so on he went, wandering in search of himself. But after his dream-like experience, he had different motives.
