“Jake, you’re fucked.” I laughed as Jake stumbled over to me and wrapped an arm around my shoulders and giggled into my neck. Yes, he giggled. Like a school girl, might I add.

We had finished the game of never have I ever a few minutes earlier, after all of us had consumed plenty of alcohol, Jake having the most of course. Ty was hovering by the pool with Matt, talking in what I thought was a hushed tone, but it might just be the drink fogging my ears.

“You need to be fucked.” Jake burst out through a fit of laughter. I rolled my eyes and threw him off me, and he landed on his butt on an empty deck chair. “Oh, right here, well okay.” He grinned, then fell back and his eyes stayed closed, passing out completely.

“Such a pig.” I muttered, but I couldn’t help but love the boy, he was one of my closest friends for a reason.

“And I always wondered how he got the ladies.” Seth said as he came over to join me, we both sat side by side on another deck chair, Nate was busy clearing away the empty bottles and glasses; he turned into a clean freak when he was drunk, weird, I know.

“Perverseness and lack of manors, clearly.” I comment, and Seth cracks a grin.

“Do you think that’s what he said to Cora before sticking his tongue down her throat?” Seth says in what he must think is a joking tone, but I can hear the strain behind his words.

I bump my shoulder into his, “It was just a banter kiss, according to Cora.” I say, and apparently I’m the only one who had no idea what a banter kiss was because Seth just forms an O with his mouth and nods with understanding.

“That’s good, then.” He says and I raise an eyebrow at him.

“If I weren’t so tipsy Seth, I’d say you have a little crush on our Cora.” I tease, and Seth scoffs at me. “Yeah right, she’s one of my best friends, I just don't want her getting hurt, you know what Jakes like, a brilliant guy, but he’s not boyfriend material.”

“Sure, sure.” I say, and before he can argue with me for blatantly disagreeing with his reasoning, Ty and Matt come over and join us on the deck chairs.

“He always did drink too fast.” Matt says lovingly at his brother, and grins at us. “I’ll go grab the sharpies.” And off he skips.

“I take it this happens a lot?” Ty queries and I have to swallow the lump in my throat; there is no way I’m letting him make me feel like a shivering mess whenever he opens his mouth.

Seth answers for me, “It’s kind of a tradition actually; Jake is always the first to pass out, no matter what the event is, party, funeral, wedding, and you know the rules; pass out, face the punishment.”

Ty nods once, then looks at me and our eyes meet, and again I’m lost in the deepness of them, how can anyone have eyes that dark and blue? It should be illegal or something.

We stare at each other for what feels like forever, saying nothing, his expression giving me nothing to go on as to what he is feeling or thinking, before Matt comes back out with a couple of sharpies in hand.

“Shall we, my friends?”

It’s close to two am when we decide to call it a night and head off, Matt assures me that Cora can spend the night there and he’ll make sure she gets home alright in the morning. Jake is still passed out on the deck chair with a lovely assortment of sharpie penises upon his face and Seth had left ten minutes earlier after making sure Cora was sorted.

“I’m off too kiddies, see you guys later.” Nate says before leaving. Matt and Jakes front yard was filled with our cars, since none of us were legal to drive, we’d have to come back and grab them in the morning, you know, after the hangover effects we were bound to face.

I was still swimming in the gloriousness of alcohol when I said my goodbyes and made my way back around the house and started walking in the direction of my house. “Hey, wait up.” I heard someone call before I even stepped foot out through the gates, I turned and saw Ty making his way over to me. “I’ll walk with you.” He says when he reaches me.

“You don't have to.” I blurt out.

Ty looks at me with an amused smile, I couldn’t tell if he was drunk or not, It didn’t seem like it, he was perfectly stable and his words didn’t slur like my own. “Well, I live that way, and I’d be an asshole if I let you walk on your own.” He states with a shrug.

My mouth forms an ‘o’ shape and we fall into step besides each other as we walk, I didn’t know he lived in my direction, or whether it was before or after my house, but I didn’t ask him that, oh no, the question that fell out of my mouth, which clearly wasn’t connected to my brain, was far worse. “Why’d you kiss me?”

I mentally slapped myself across the face, and dared a glance in Ty’s direction, but he was still looking straight ahead, his face unchanging. He shrugged his shoulders and looked at me after what felt like forever, a crocked smile on his lips, “Why not, it was just a kiss, no big deal.” He says, and I feel my heart jump in my chest, which was very unnecessary.

I nod my head and face forward again, wishing this walk would hurry up so I could escape into the privacy of my room.

We walk for another five minutes before Ty speaks again, “Wait, you’re not one of those girls who analyses everything are you?” He asks, his tone teasing, and I feel slightly offended by that.

I snort at him and cross my arms over my chest, which feels silly as I walk so I let them drop back down to my sides, “Of course not, it’s just not every day some random guy attacks my face for no reason.” I reply hotly, and he laughs shortly.

“That’s okay then, because it was just a kiss, nothing to think too heavily about, right?” He says with a grin.

I roll my eyes, “Obviously, and if you could refrain from kissing me again, that would be great.” I say, trying to keep the bitterness from my tone.

The grin slips from his face but I can still see humour in his eyes, “Whatever you say, Nova.”

We walk the rest of the way in silence, not an uncomfortable one, luckily, but I’m thankful when we finally reach my house. “Well, thanks for walking me.” I say, rocking back on my heels.

“Don't mention it, see ya.” And with that he’s gone, walking back on himself in the direction we had just came, which meant he lived before me, so why did he walk me all the way to my door?

Don't think about it Nova, you heard what he said, what he did meant nothing, and what he continued to do also meant nothing.

Once I got inside I try my best to keep quiet, my dad was usually a light sleeper and I didn’t want to wake him up when he had to get up early anyway to travel down to my uncles.

I strip off my clothes and pull on a pair of shorts and tank top before sliding into my bed, sleep suddenly seeming like the best thing in the world right now.

Tomorrow was going to be killer.
