Chapter 21~ Kennedy

 I got the call when I was in the middle of talking to a patient about their successful kidney transplant.

“Young!” I heard Kepner yell and I ran out to see what she wanted.

“Yes?” I asked slipping on the yellow gown that covered my scrubs and I put on my gloves and met her outside where the ambulances come.

“Who’s the patient?” I asked her as I stood next to her.

She hesitated for a while before answering me “Harry’s mum”

I looked at her and my whole heart just dropped “Wha-?”

“It’s okay if you don’t want to take it” said Kepner and I shook my head “I’ll leave you and Ross to it then”

I nodded and Ross came out to stand next to me “You okay to take this one?”

“Yeah, you’ll be doing most of it though” I said with a smirk on my face and he smiled.

“Finally!” he said raising his arms.

“Ross had more pressure” I yelled at him as we wheeled Anne into the ER.

I took out my phone and called Harry.

I hung up even before I could get most of his response.

The minute we wheeled her into the OR- the nurses got her stable. Ross and I scrubbed in and all that jazz.

“Dr. Young?” Emily asked me and I looked at her.

“The patient’s family is here” she said and I nodded.

“Ross, stabilize the patient and open her up. I’ll go and speak to them” I said to him leaving him with his mouth wide open.

I walked out into the waiting room with my gown on and my scrub cap on and saw Harry, Gemma, and Robin.

I walked over and they lifted their heads up.

“Is she okay?” asked Robin and he was crying.

“I have her stabilized in the OR and I’m going to operate on her now- she has lost a lot of blood” I said and they nodded.

“I’ll come out every so often to keep you updated though” I said and they nodded.

I started to walk away and I heard Harry walk behind me.

“You’ll do everything you can right?” he asked me sniffling. I looked at him and saw his were blood shot.

“I’ll do whatever I can in my power to keep her alive” I said and he gave me a hug.

“Ross, move” I said- Anne’s vitals were dropping fast and her heart was failing her “Call Sophia” I snarled.

Within moments Sophia came in and started working on her heart.

“She has a blood clot” she muttered as she asked for suction.

I showed Ross how to close up and take the bullet out and then we were done in the OR. Sophia still had to work on her heart.

“I’ll let them know” I told her and she nodded before working on the heart.

I walked out and saw them sitting and talking to each other, they lifted up their head once they saw me walk out.

“How is she?” asked Robin.

“We are actually having a couple of complications…” I said before I could go on, Gemma interrupted me.

“What to do mean ‘complications’?” she asked angrily. I knew she was angry and upset that someone could do this to their mother.

“The bullet erupted her a part of her intestine and we had to completely re-construct it and now Dr. Rider is working on her heart because the other bullet that’s in her got to close to her heart- so she carefully working on fixing her heart” I said looking at them and Gemma already had tears falling down her eyes.

“Is she going to live?” she whispered and Harry rubbed her back.

“I can’t promise anything- but we’re doing everything we possibly can to save her” I said looking at them and they nodded.

“YOUNG!!” I heard my intern yell as he came out in his gown and scrub cap “She’s falling!”

Robin, Harry, and Gemma all gave me a panicky look and I gave Ross an irritated look.

I gave them one last look before running into the OR.

“What happened?!” I said as I walked into the OR. Sophia was yelling at people and it was all very frantic in the OR.

“Her vitals are falling and apparently one of our interns wasn’t watching her and her intestine opened up again and then they didn’t wash one of the tools and now- SUCTION” she yelled out the last part.

About 3 hours later we wheeled Anne out and into a recovery room- the rest of her family was in there waiting for her. Gemma was very happy that her mom turned out okay.

Sophia and I yelled at one of our interns for doing what they did and told them to take a break and just stay home.

Sophia and I walked into her room to talk to the family.

“How is she?” Harry asked

“She’ll hopefully wake up in a couple of hours- just because of all of the drugs in her body” Sophia said. The minute she said that, the heart monitor started to beep rapidly.

“What’s going on?” asked Robin.

“Her heart rate is increasing, she’s going into Cardiac arrest” I snarled and Sophia called in a nurse to get us the Defibrillator.

“I’m going to ask you guys to leave” I said to them and tried to push them out. Of course they wouldn’t leave and I had to do something.

“You need to leave or else it’ll be harder for us to save your mom” I snarled at them and they all backed up and let us do our thing.

The last thing I heard was the sound of the heart monitor and screams coming from the room.
