CHAPTER 1
I wake to the sound of a new day. The glow of the white sun shines through my curtains. I can feel its heat through the thick glass. Birds sing quiet, faint songs that I can barely hear. I leap out of my bed. My feet hit the cold, stone floor. Ky sleeps softly in the bunk beneath mine. The kids in the four other bunks sleep quietly as well. I head to the bathroom and take a three minute shower and throw my long, curly black hair into a pony tail. I dress in a grey hoodie and black Adidas sweat pants. I tip-toe out of the bathroom and down the stairs, it's my turn to make breakfast. I crack three dozen eggs in the large frying pan and make a few pancakes for Kristi, our family vegetarian. The day has begun.
