I woke up early today. It was maybe around 5 A.M. My wife still lie next to me, sleeping as peacefully as ever. I'm not used to being awake this early, but for some reason i had the feeling that if i were to lay back down, and fell asleep, I wouldn't be waking up again. Quite a dreadful feeling, I know. But it wasn't one I could just shake off. I sat up, put my house shoes on, and carefully snuck out of the bedroom. I looked back at my spouse just before leaving the room. She let out a loud snore, and I carefully shut the door behind me. I tiptoed down whats now a dimly lit hallway, careful not to wake my 6 year old son. I peeked my head through his open door, "fast asleep" i whispered to myself. He looked so peaceful when he slept. He was my biggest accomplishment, he brought me so much joy every day. I was so proud of him. I ducked my head back out of his room and made my way down the main stairs, through the living-room, and into our kitchen. By now the sun is rising and you can just barely see it through the thick trees in our backyard. As i looked out our window, i thought i saw movement in the trees. I wasn't sure, though. I brushed it off as any woodland critter looking for its first meal of the day. I spent that morning making coffee and watching the sunrise. "It's a new day" i said to myself.
