Too Young

Chapter 12

Matthew:
I felt even worse the next day. I had been throwing up all night. It had been really nice to have my dad there with me. I was trying to seem better than I actually felt, though. Carolynn didn't like me taking him from her. Although I had always known that she never really loved him. She was just using him. And, maybe he even knew it, and that was why he was gone a lot. But I wasn't fulling anyone that weekend.
I was going to go back to sleep, but I heard someone lightly knocking on my door. I didn't know who it could be. No one knocked on my door. I figured that it had to be Hannah. "Come in."
To my surprise, I saw Amy in my doorway with food, which was the last thing that I needed. But I thought it was a really sweet gesture. "Hey, Matt. Not feeling any better?"
She sat the soup on my nightstand. It looked liked the carrot ginger soup that my godmother made. I had to have a few bites. "Carrot ginger?"
"Yeah. My mom makes it when my brother or I are sick." I notice her looking around my room."Wow. That's a Stevie Nickscollection."
I smiled at her. "Yeah. I love Stevie."
"I love Fleetwood Mac, too. Do you like them, too?"
"Yeah. But I love Stevie." She's my favorite."
     "Mine, too."
She asked me how I had become a fan. "I have grown up with it. But I just love her voice."
I didn't know why I felt the way I did, but I wanted to tell Amy exactly why Stevie was so important to me. But I felt like I could really trust her, because that wasn't't something I just told people. "Amy, there's something I want to tell you. But you may not believe me."
     "What?"
     "I actually know Stevie Nicks."
"Really. Did you do like a meet and greet or something?"
"No. She was best friends with my mom before she died. Carolyn is not my mother. Far from it. That's my mom in  that picture."
I pointed to the photo of my mom that I've had ever since I was a baby. Amy stared at it for a long while. "Wow. She was beautiful. Can I ask how she died?"
"She died of leukemia shortly after I was born."
"I'm so sorry, Matt. So, your dad stayed close with Stevie after your mom died?"
"Yeah. But could you please keep this to yourself?"
     "Sure. What was her name?"
     "Robin."
"A beautiful name for a beautiful woman."
     "Thanks, Amy."
"Yep. You look really tired. I'm going to go. I'm gonna give you my number if you want to talk or anything. Feel better."
Amy then left. I thought she was something special. But the soup, I soon found out, was not a good idea. I got really sick shortly after she left. But I was thankful that I didn't get sick until she left. I wouldn't want her to feel bad. I didn't want Carolynn to hear. But unfortunately, I couldn't get that lucky. She came into the bathroom and slapped me. "You should've told your little friend that you couldn't eat after what happened last night. Keep it quiet up here. I'll take your bowl downstairs for you, baby."
