She isn't the most beautiful girl I have ever seen but something about her immediately catches my attention. Maybe it is the way her curly hair is in disarray despite being pulled back. Or maybe it is the way her eyeliner is smudged slightly just under her eyes. It might have been the way she held herself. Poised and proper yet still like she is shielding herself from something. Or even the way her delicate shoulders are shaking with the sobs she is trying to stifle. It could be all of those reasons coupled with the sight of a light purple suitcase at her side. My heart clenched at the sight of her. How anyone could make her cry, I didn't know. "May I come in?" Her soft voice, thick with emotion, floats into the room and I step aside to let her in. "Yes of course," she slides past me doing her best to keep her distance, "May I help you?" She drops her suitcase by the couch in our living room and shakes her head. "I just need Maddy" her voice is practically a whisper and it takes me a second to process that she is probably talking about my roommate Maddox. "Is he here?" Hell. I know for a fact he is in his room, currently with a girl and by any indication, whatever they are doing back there, no one should disturb them. Especially this girl who looks innocent as hell. I'm hesitant to answer, not sure what to say. "He's a little preoccupied at the moment." I finally tell her. She nods her head in understanding but still ducks into the hallway leading to the bedrooms. "wait!" I call. She ignores me and stops at his door anyways, knocking softly but still loud enough for him to hear. A string of profanity can be heard on the other side of the door, and the sound of shuffling clothes follows it. In no time at all, Maddox is yanking open the door and yelling "WHAT THE FUCK..." Before noticing the girl and pausing. Its like a switch in him was flipped. His angry snarl falls and it replaced by a look of concern. "Alora? Shit sweetheart, why didn't you say it was you? I wouldn't of yelled."It's then that I notice Alora shaking from Maddox yelling at her, and I have to fight my instinct to grab her and shield her away from Maddox. "I didn't think you would hear me." Her head falls and her shoulders slump from the reprimanding tone in Maddox's voice. Maddox gently pulls her into his arms and tucks her head under his chin. Aloras shoulders are shaking more violently now as she hugs Maddox back and allows herself to cry. He Slowly rocks her back and forth while calmly shushing her cries. Maddox finally looks up from the delicate girl in his arm and sees me. "I've got it from here" he tells me before sweeping her up in his arms carefully and taking her into his room. I hesitate in the hallway, not wanting to leave Alora yet, and I hear Maddox tell the random girl to "Kindly get the fuck out." The girl huffs and stomps out of his room, Coming to a halt when she sees me. She quickly composes her face into a sultry smile and I realize what she wants quickly. "No." I deadpan. Her face turns into a scowl and she continues her rampage past me and out of the apartment. The place falls quiet except for Aloras soft voice. She is still crying, That much I can tell, but I can't make out what she is saying. I decide that I probably shouldn't be lurking around outside of Maddox's door so I turn and make my way to the kitchen. Maddox's and Alora's relationship confuses me. Maddox's reputation isn't the kind that girls like Alora fit into. I haven't known Maddox for long. In fact I met him two weeks ago when my friend hooked me up with a place to stay. But even in that short amount of time, he's had a new girl almost everyday in that time. Most times, they go back to her place or anywhere but here, but there are a few times when he brings them back here. So how does a girl like Alora get mixed up with the likes of him?
