How many men and women for you have left,

Family and children - peace and rest,

To take a gun and give their life,

Leaving behind a husband or wife?

How many men and women have heard your call,

To take up arms lest you fall,

While proud you stand beneath God’s blue sky,

Stars and stripes flying like the eagle on high?

In your breast each one who died,

You gave a shelter there to hide.

How many secrets do you hold,

That can not be bought with gems or gold?

The dreams of your sons and daughters rest,

Snuggled forever in your breast,

When like a mother you increased,

Their every dream and hope for peace.

For you they lived - for you they died,

Born of your patriotism, love and pride,

Placing you before family and all,

They answered with honor when you called.

A beacon of freedom for all to see,

Across all nationalities - across all seas,

May God in his wisdom always watch over you,

And bless all who serve the red, white and blue.
