They never soothed him when he cried about it they just went on about how wrong it is making him feel worse. Harry was gay. He was a bit of the stereotype. Thats why people were against him. Another thing was, he was weak. He always cried at pretty much nothing. The final thing people hated him for, he was a little bit chubby. Why should that matter!?.
