When I first met Doc, I knew there was something familiar about him. I knew his face from somewhere, the question was, where? As I tried to figure out this puzzle, I stood quietly in one corner of his office. Hunter was explaining the entire thing, and when he got to him and Wyatt being buyers, Doc looked at Hunter, then at me. A first I thought it was because he was a doctor, but he hadn't looked at Wyatt. Then it hit me. Same dark hair and darker than usual skin. The eyes were the only difference; green, almost like Wyatt's, instead of violet. The understanding must have shown on my face because Wyatt slid over.

"Did you figure it out?"

"Doc is Hunter's - older? - brother, am I right?"

"Yep,"

When he saw the expression on my face, he quickly said, "When you're here for something within his trade, an injury or illness, Doc is serious and won't make any cracks. If you become his friend, though, he's as bad, if not worse, than Hunter. After all, he has to get it from somewhere,"

That made me laugh, and suddenly everyone was staring at me.

"You must be Ashlyne," Doc said.

"Ash, please,"

I heard Hunter snicker. "Ashlyne? Seriously?"

"Very well then, Ash," Doc said, quickly regaining control. Ah, the wonders of being an older brother, and a doctor.

"Do you have any idea what happened to you?"

"No freaking clue,"

"Well, your mother had the same thing. What you did showed signs of the mercenary enhancement that your mother also possessed,"

"Wait, what?"

"You're the second case noted, the first being your mother, so we don't know much else. From your mother's records, it mainly seems to be a large increase in adrenaline, speed, and strength,"

"So is this a good thing or a bad thing?"

"A very good thing. You will excel in your training and have the potential to be a great mercenary like your mother,"

"Lovely,"

"Most believe so,"

"Most, how refreshing. This means that most will think I'm some sort of wonderful and blessed person, and the rest will think I'm some sort of mad woman. That's one way to make sure my ego stays in check,"

"Really?" Hunter asked. "A wonderful and blessed person? No one would believe that crap,"

I looked at Doc. "And your brother over there is the other way,"

"How long did it take you to figure it out?" the brothers wanted to know.

Wyatt spoke up. "About four or five minutes,"

"Because I am the all-knowing, the only one you cannot keep secrets from...Ash," I added mysteriously.

Hunter ruined it though. "Yeah, and you're also wonderful and blessed, aren't you?"

"Would you just shut the hell up about that one? And anyone could tell you that it's true," I laughed. "And compared to you, I'm a freaking deity,"

"Why are you so anti-religion?" Hunter asked, dead serious.

"I don't believe in it for whatever reason. No religion strikes me as something to believe in. And anyway, with all these people believing in all these gods, all those gods exist to those people. So by repeatedly saying 'gods' in almost everything I do, I'm keeping all those people happy,"
