Maybe it was just luck

It was another agonizing day of school. I hate school. Not school itself, I actually like learning, but the people I have to put up with. My name is Scarlett. I'm a Freshman in Lincoln High school. I'm not really the social type of person. Although, I have a few friends I'm comfortable with being myself.

My best friend, Hayleigh, for instance. Hayleigh and I met in junior high, when I first moved, she was the first person I talked to. Even since we have been inseparable. She is a lot shorter than me though, she has dark curly hair, and I have dark straight hair. We are very different though, we would seem like unlikely friends.

I walk into first period class and look as everyone stares up at me. I act like I don't notice. "Late again I see." I looked up to find one of the grades bossiest girls looking me up and down in disapproval. She thinks I'm emo, that is in fact, the stereotype I would fit in though. I am wearing my ripped black skinny jeans, a lose white BOTDF shirt, and my black rubber choker and converses. I ignore her and take my seat. I can barely remember being in there for over 10 minutes. I guess I'm partially asleep.

Second period. Gym class. It's actually really easy, at the beginning of the year, we did exercises and running, but all we do now is walk around, talk, and hide in the locker room. Except for the basketball girls and boys, of course. They are always playing some kind of sport, but if you had to bet your life on it, they would be playing basketball.

I forgot, they are setting up the gym for the archery tournament in two days. That means, today we sit in the bleachers, and there should be a sophomore class joining us as well. I sit down at the second to top row. No one sits with me. Hayleigh isn't here. I'm all alone. Then all the sudden, someone sits on my row, only two feet to my right.

I glance up to try and see their face, then I realize it's Grace's best friend. Grace is a sophomore,  we met two years ago on the bus, and have been good friends ever since. Grace has mentioned her a lot, and their always with each other. I can't seem to remember her name. She is very beautiful, long blond hair always pulled back in a pony tale. I've noticed the way she acts, kinda tomboy. I enjoy it for some reason. Her eyes are a vibrant blue, like none I've ever seen before. She is skinny or should I say fit, she is also a basketball girl.

I look back down at my phone. I look at her lap and she is listening to music with some earbuds. Then I remembered I was about to listen to music as well, until she stole my attention. I felt around in my pocket, but nothing but candy wrappers. where are my earbuds?

"Oh no.." The words accidentally escape my mouth. Then the girl beside me pulls out an earbud as she watches me frantically searching my backpack.

"Hey, is everything okay there?" I look up at her astonished she noticed me. "yes. well, actually no. I can't find my earbuds."

Our eyes locked and I couldn't look away. she looked around awkwardly for a second, but I never broke my gaze. She looked back at me and smiled. "what?" She laughed.

"Oh, sorry, it's just your eyes, they're hard to look away from. They're really pretty." She smiled even bigger.

"Thanks" she said in a cheerful way. She looked me up and down, then I smiled.

"Do you wanna listen to music with me? It doesn't matter to me, I can share."

I looked at her gratefully. "Yeah, that would be great. Thanks."

She handed me the earbud in her hand that she had taken out earlier while talking to me. We both turned back facing forward, I tried to put my earbud in but we weren't close enough. I scoot closer to her, and then she realized what I was doing and came closer as well. At that moment, our legs were touching, we were close. literally.

The time went by to fast, all I remember was thinking things over, I didn't even pay attention to the music we were listening to. Then everyone started getting up, I checked my phone and the class period was over. I took out the earbud and handed it back to her.

"Whoah, your hands are really cold." she commented as our hands touched.

"yeah.." is all I could choke out. My heart started beating uncontrollably, and I don't know why. She smiled at me once last time before starting down the steps. Then I remembered, I never asked for her name. Maybe we'll met again and I can ask, or maybe this was a one time thing, maybe it was just luck.
