As I helped my parents unpack, I caught my dad continously casting short anxious glances at me......I was surprised but I almost didn't care because I was really tired....soon enough we were done with unpacking stuff, so I started arranging my new room and putting things in order. I had only one thing on my mind now.....sleep.
Once I was done arranging stuff and making my bed, I lazily dropped down onto it, it was like a spell because I slept of immediately, tired and exhausted.... "Daren!!" Came my dads husky voice from the hallway continously like we were in a zombie apocalypse from which we need to escape immediately.
I couldn't tell how much hours I had slept, but when I look out of the window, it was already dark and and the woods loomed around us on one side like a huge dark menace threatening to engulf us.

"Yes dad I'm coming!!" I almost shouted back in annoyance. I wasn't annoyed for long because I could perceive food cooking... I washed my face in the sink, then left my room and went towards the hallway. "How much more do you intend to sleep boy?!" "You have almost slept the whole day off". "Come and help me fix some of the lightings before dinner gets ready". I sighed lightly and followed my dad into one of the empty rooms, which was going to be my dad's sturdy.
"Dad can I have a little party for my birthday next month?" I asked. My dad turned and faced me and just stood there glaring at me like I was a stranger....
"Dad?" . No you can't came the abrupt reply. "Why dad?" I asked. "Because I said so!!" came the reply with a hint of rising anger... "oh".. was all I said almost inaudibly with a little hint of disappointment in my voice. "I'm sorry son, your mum and I will make it up to you" "cheer up" he said in a softer tone than he has ever used on me. "Dinner's ready" came my mum's voice from the dining. "We are coming honey" my dad answered back.
"Daren?" My dad called my name still looking at my visibly disappointed face. "We need to talk"... "come to my sturdy after dinner" "I need to tell you something", "An old family secret"...... "Ok dad" I replied.
With that he left for the dining leaving me still standing staring after his receeding back. "A secret?", "What secret does dad have to tell me?" I wondered while leaving the sturdy for the dining. I was so visibly excited that I could hardly eat.... A Secret which would change my life forever if only I had known..
