"You shouldn't pick around with those kind of flowers, Don." said Serenity. "They grow sideways. Don't touch it I said!" She yelled.
I never liked it when people yelled at me it made it seem like I was useless. Master never yelled. He told me to make drinks for him, but if he ever caught me drinking them I would surely be beat. A house slave was never beat or at least in my lifetime.
"It's just a flower! It didn't kill ya! I can tell, you naggin' me!" I screamed back. I could tell Serenity was getting angry. She hated it when she didn't get her way. She haunched up her dress and marched over closer to me.
"You yelling at me is pointless Don. My naggin' is not. Our job is to 'better the garden' according to Missus. Your bratin' ain't doing none of us no good dammit." She lectured. Serenity is always lecturing me. She is the only mother figure I have in my life. It is odd how her mood changes. She is able to teach you things at times. She said her wisdom could better me. Serenity is my sister. Our mother was auctioned away 4 years ago.
I walked away from the mysterious plant and sat under a oak tree. I had a question in mind so I decided to bring it to light.
"Serenity?" I said. "Yes Don."
"Why is Massa holding a second auction ?" I asked.
"He's running low on money. He wants this garden to look nice so he can hold the auction here. He wants to haul his slaves off to hell in the best way possible." She replied.
I had more questions.
"Will we be separated again?"
She stood up from kneeling and digging in dirt and looked at me. She walked over toward me and sat next to me under the tree.
"I will do any and everything in my power to make sure that we are never separated again
