Just an original short story - not that great but anyways, here you go.

It was midday, I watched my crew members load the ship with supplies. Constantly moving around, organizing the barrels of wine. It’s my first year of being captain of the Vectra.  Suddenly I heard a deep coarse voice, “Captain McCrea Sir!We’ve finished loading!” shouted one of my many deck hands. I knew it was time to set sail; we were leaving to Iceland. We were transporting wine to another wine vineyard for tasting.

I was in the bridge just as dusk started to arrive, the waves were restless. Then out of nowhere the sirens blared. “Captain!” I can hear coming from the engine room. I ran there as fast as I could. It’s my ship engineer Alenski Babushka “Captain, something’s jammed in the gears! It’s stuck and I can’t get it out! The ship is going to sink, we need to leave now!”

I ran to my cabin and shouted over the intercom, “Mayday, Mayday, Abandon ship, lower the life boats!” I ran down the steps just as the stern went under. I ran to the bow, as did many others trying to stay alive. The waves were of no help, thrashing along the top of the ship as it sank, snatching men and swallowing them whole as if someone plopped a grain of rice in their mouth. Men were jumping off the bow, falling to their death from the height. One of the life boats hinges broke loose and the boat landed up right into the sea. Before I knew it there were only four of us left, the engineer, the cook, my first mate, and I. The ship sank at least three quarters of the way into the sea. Once we found our chance, we let go, landing into the ice cold biting water. The waves had practically subsided. We swam to the life boat that had come loose from the ship earlier. Trying to pull our bodies over the side and into the lifeboat, pushing the others in, was straining on our already shocked muscles. As soon as we were in the boat, we opened the emergency blanket and all huddled underneath it, shivering, trying to create warmth. We were so exhausted, we all blacked out.

The next morning we awoke, pulling the blanket off of our faces. We looked in the box, and stared at the dried food, and canteens. “We need to make this last, agreed?”

“Agreed” they repeated back to me in monotone voices.

We started eating some of the dried fruit, and my first mate, Horatio McBrower, luckily had a compass. So we decided to head west. Just as dusk began to appear, there was a slight breeze. I ordered my men to help open the sail, and sure enough, the slight breeze became large gusts of wind. I decided that with the sail set in position, we could get some shut-eye. When we awoke the next morning, the boat was stuck on shore. We all cheered for we were at Iceland, but then soon after realized that we were on the part of Iceland that has no habitants.

We went back to the lifeboat, grabbed what supplies we had left and started forward towards the mountains. We started noticing that there was snow on the ground as we were hiking; it kept getting thinker and thinker as we trudged along. Not too long later it was snowing, and the light falling snow turned into a light blizzard. We were hiking up a steep snow covered mountain barely able to see where we were stepping. Just as I was looking back at my men, I see something in the distance; it’s hard to make out because it’s the same color as the snow that’s falling on the ground. It’s coming closer very fast, and as soon as I put the pieces together; it’s white, it’s large, and it’s fast.

“Polar bear!” I shouted at the top of my lungs. We started sprinting as quickly as we could trying not to slip and fall to our death, but before I knew it, I heard a loud agonizing scream of pain. Then, I just knew. The three of us that were left turned around and saw the wide splatter of red across the snow a few yards back. I was doing a head count and found out that McBrower was not with us, it was his scream we heard. Despite of what just happened we kept moving, quickly, trying not to make ourselves noticeable.

We found a hole; it seemed to be an old burrow, vacant. We went inside, digesting what just happened. My cook, Tetchur Rangulbi, started a fire and we heated up some water in a tin cup. After we ate, it was hard to sleep having the scream of McBrower stuck on replay in your head. The next morning, we ate very little, and mounted a small cross next to a tree. With ‘Horatio McBrower’ carved in the wood of the tree. After we said some nice words, we started towards more mountains, but this time with only Rangulbi, Babushka, and I.

We hiked for hours, and just as I thought, another blizzard came upon us. We were looking for shelter; we hiked up a steep mountain, and found a good sized cave with a drop off directly in front of it. We made sure that it was vacant, and as we walked in, we found a nest with bird eggs. Rangulbi started a fire and cooked the eggs with the dried jerky that we had left over. As we sat, we each talked a little about our lives.

Babushka started “I was born in Moscow, Russia, when I was a young boy my parents sought a new life. So we migrated to Ireland, in Limerick City. As a young boy I helped my father tend to the docks and ships. It’s he who taught me everything I know about ships.” “What about you Captain McCrea?”

“Well, I lived in Ireland as a young boy, but my parents moved to the Americas, in the south. When I was older in my mid twenty’s, I moved back to Ireland and later became Captain of the Vectra, which is now at the bottom of the sea.” “What about you, Rangulbi?”

“I am from Palau, but as a young boy my family was taken captive by slave traders and we were shipped to the Americas. There our family was sold. The man that owned us later killed my father, so I made a promise to my mother that I would avenge his death.” exclaimed Rangulbi.

“I’m very sorry to hear that that has happened to you, if you don’t mind, I need some fresh air. I’ll be by the entrance of the cave.” Said Babushka

I sat there quietly, finishing my meal. Then Rangulbi got up and started walking towards Babushka. All I expected was for them to talk, but to my amazement, Rangulbi abruptly shoved Babushka off the edge of the cliff. I got up slowly, and Rangulbi turned towards me, with a crazed hunger, like the bear that ate McBrower.

Rangulbi started speaking “It was I who sabotaged the ship to sink. Your father, it was your father that killed mine. Now you’re going to pay for all the pain and suffering my mother and I went through all these years!”

He came at me with brute force, our hands strangling one another, wrestling around the inside of the cave. We slowly got closer and closer to the mouth of the cave. He tried shoving me over, but I pulled him with me.
