"Hey, have you found the packs," I heard someone ask from behind me, for what I assume they were looking for drinks. I was aimlessly walking through the kitchen, looking for something else entirely but I had no clue as to where it could be or if they had any.
"Ever, you have to check out the DJ! Come on," Holden pulled me towards the stage where the DJ table was located at and behind it was a girl with dark brown hair, headphones around her neck, several bracelets jingling together, and five piercings on each ear.
"Hi, nice table," I waved at the girl awkwardly, confused why Hold wanted to bring me here. After all, it's not like I throw beats on my causal Saturday nights.
"This is Everly," Holden pointed me out for the girl. "Ev-"
"Holden, I don't need you to introduce her to me. I know who she is. Half of the population knows who she is." She cut Holden off. "Hi, I'm Kim." She stuck her hand out for me to shake. I took it. "And this old thing ain't much," she patted the table which she was now standing in front of after she came out from behind it to say hello.
"So what beats are you throwing out there?" I didn't know what else to ask her.
"A bit of everything actually, after all these people are a mix of everything," she laughed. "This is my first time attending a party that is so mixed. I've been getting request from all over. One wants country, another wants rap." She shrugged her shoulders. "I thought it'd be better to keep it mix for the rest of the night."
"Has it worked so far," I curiously asked.
"Well, when a certain song comes on and they think it's taking too long to change, they start making their way towards me but not a second later, the song changes and they retract their steps and act like they weren't just about to ask me to change it," Kim sighed. "Been happening a couple of times too."
"Everly here has quite good taste on music Kim. You should let her jam out a bit." Holden gave her the puppy dog face, which Kim rolled her eyes to, a grin formed on her lips before agreeing to the arrangement.
I wore a perplexed look on my face, confused why Holden even asked her to let me play music on her DJ table. I didn't even ask him to ask her. What's wrong with this guy.
I looked over at him and quickly staggered back after I got a whiff of alcohol coming off of him as the wind breezed by. I wore a, what I could predict, stupid look on my face as I turned back around, my back facing Holden. Kim looked ready to laugh, but covered it with her fist.
"Fine, but just this once. If they caught me slacking they won't ever suggest hiring me again. Plus I'm tired. So I guess it's a win win. Go for it Sullivan." She coughed out a laugh as she walked away.
"Let's get this party started," Holden said with a devilish glint in his eyes with a creepy smile going on, he could have represented the Grinch. I shot him a side glance, squinting my eyes at him before looking away from him. He seemed to be up to something, that's for sure and I doubt it's anything good.
I pumped up the party for half an hour and left the rest to Kim before her boss could have noticed she wasn't there.
I mostly play old tunes from the past. The hits from our childhood. Hey, they should actually make that as one of our category selection.
I walked my way to the kitchen once again, since I didn't finish looking for what I was looking for in the first place. People shot their hands out in front of me asking for a high five to which I returned as I walked passed them.
"Whatcha looking for," I heard someone say. I looked to my left to see Ty leaning against the cabinet door to the pantry.
"For pie. I'm beginning to doubt they have any. I might just still for cookies or something of that sort. After all, that'll be easier to look for rather than pie."
"Why pie?" He asked, eyebrows arching.
"Why not pie?" I lifted an eyebrow at him, giving him the eye, as I widen one and the other squinted.
He laughed. "You're right. Why not?"
He swung an arm around me, hooking around my neck. I took hold of his hand ready to throw it off while we laughed together.
"Aw, are you two together," Kim gushed as she squealed in delight.
Ty's and my laughter, faltered. I kinda cringed at the thought. It's not because Ty is a bad guy, because he's not. He's really sweet and kind, but he's like my brother. So, just...no.
"No," I prolonged. "Wait, aren't you supposed to be at the DJ table?"
"Oh, yeah. About that. Holden took my place. I asked him if he could take over for a minute as I went to the restroom. That's when I bumped into you two. And sorry for the confusion. It was just that you two were laughing and he had his arm around you so I just assumed... But I'm really sorry about that. I should have asked before assuming."
"No problem. Just ask first, please? I don't want people over hearing and believing it's true."
"Of course. I should go now though. I told Holden it'd just be a minute." She was about to walk away when she turned back to us. "And I'd drop the arm thing if you don't want rumours to be going around. She winked before leaving to do her business.
I looked down at my hand that held Ty's, still. I quickly threw his arm back and dropped his hand as if they were on fire.
"Ow," I heard someone hiss in pain. I spun around to see Calibur clinching his head, to be more specific, his eye. I looked over at Ty to see him with an 'ouch' expression on his face.
"Why'd you do that for?" He pulled his hand away, to reveal purplish color beginning to form around his eye. "What?"
"I'd put ice on that if I were you," I cringed back while all this time I didn't waiver from looking at his eye that got hit by Ty's hand, I threw back too quickly.
While Tyler went to the fridge to get ice for Cal, the lights from outside went off. The three of us, who were the only ones in the brightly lit kitchen at the moment, looked out to the backyard, where the party was being held. We looked at each other confused, when I heard a cackle come from within the crowd.
"Oh no, Holden." I shook my head. I knew he was up to no good.
"What about Holden," Cal, who was sitting right next to me, asked right when a loud cackle echoed throughout the house.
"He's been drinking and might have gone a bit overboard," I answered shaking my head.
Ugh. I guess I have my night cut out for myself. How nice of a friend he has, sarcasm intended.
