Survival Skill 17: Thou must be supportive
“So, should we yell or something?” Joey asked as we heard another whistle, signaling another one of our team’s touchdown.
“I don’t know. I don’t go to these things remember?” I reminded Joey.
“I think we’re supposed to cheer, guys.” Amy commented sweetly.
“Uh, Go!” I cheered weakly as I threw a fist up lamely.
“Oh, yeah, that would definitely boost up their confidence.” Joey giggled.
It was only the three of us tonight since Violet went on another date.
I rolled my eyes at her. What the hell did she expect me to do? I didn’t come to these things. Jamie asked me a few times to come but I always declined his offer. If I wasn’t playing the role as the Quarterback’s supportive girlfriend, I would have been watching Titanic at home.
“The Lions are out for the kill tonight!” I heard the commentator announce enthusiastically.
“I know someone else out for the kill.” Joey added amusedly, making me elbow her in the arm.
“What’s the matter?” Amy asked us curiously, wondering why I suddenly resorted to physical violence.
“Haven’t you heard?” Joey smirked. “Lily May threatened George and said she was taking Parker.”
“The Lily May?” Amy asked with her eyes wide open. I glared at Joey but she simply ignored me.
“Yep.” Joey affirmed her. “Sweet and innocent Lily May,” she said in a sweet southern accent.
I groaned. “Please, can we just not talk about this?” This was annoying. I didn’t want to think about ‘sweet and innocent’ Lily May and the ‘sweet and innocent’ talk we just had yesterday. I still couldn’t believe it myself.
Giving me a small smile, both girls turned back to the game. I sighed and did so as well. Immediately, my attention turned to Rex Parker, who was currently holding the ball yelling something that was incoherent to my hearing. It didn’t help that he looked hotter in his football uniform. I almost drooled when he came to see if we really did come to the game.
He had his game face on the entire game and showed no signs of his immature and annoying self. It actually surprised me of how serious he looked. Jamie had the same aura as Rex, too. I could never understand how you could simply change personalities just like that.
“Do you think we will win?” Amy asked.
I nodded my head. “Positive,” With half time over already, we were already halfway through this game set and we were at least ten points ahead. I think that was a good sign as to our chances of winning.
“Yeah, I don’t think they can catch up with Woodley tackling every moving thing in sight.” Joey chuckled.
I grinned. “Rex knew how to strategize.”
“Well, he is rather cheeky.” Amy giggled. My grin grew wider. Yeah, my boyfriend was surely cheeky.
**********************************************
“Congrats, Parker!” Joey said to Rex with a bright smile. We were in their lockers half an hour after winning the game.
“Thanks!” Rex beamed at her before shaking his wet hair as he sat down on a bench.
I think he just finished his shower and I would be lying if I told you he didn’t look hot at the moment. “Yeah, you were great.”
“Oh my God! Did George just give me a compliment?” he gasped while feigning shock.
I punched him in the arm. “Well, don’t get used to it, Parker.” He gave me a smirk as he stood up and grabbed my hand. I suppressed a stupid smile that tried to break on my face as he made me step closer to him.
“Okay! I feel like such a third wheel right now.” Joey grunted as she crossed her arms over her chest.
Nathan chuckled as he was hugging Amy from behind. The big secret that Amy told us yesterday was about dating Nathan. Couldn’t say we were surprised since we already knew that this was where it would lead. The thing that surprised us, though, was the fact that Amy made the first move. We hadn’t seen that one coming and ended up having a talk about it longer than expected, We were proud of her to say the least.
“You always got me.” Patrick whispered, leaning closer to Joey.
“On second thought, I’d rather die alone.” Joey said in disgust to Patrick. I shook my head at their idiotic conversation.
Just then I saw my brother walk to our direction with a worried expression. “Hi, guys!” he smiled at us, which I knew was fake.
“Something wrong, buddy?” I heard Rex ask to Jamie. I turned to his direction and, judging by Rex’ expression, I can sense that he knew Jamie’s smile was fake, too.
“Uh, I kind of want to talk to, George,” Jamie mumbled looking at me shyly.
I had a bad feeling about this. “Yeah?” I responded, pulling away from Rex.
He gestured me to follow him, meaning that we would need to talk in private. I followed him with a feeling of dread in the pit of my stomach.
“What’s the matter, Jamie?” I asked instantly as he stopped to a place out of my friends’ earshot and turned to me.
“Yeah…” he breathed slowly. I looked at him with furrowed eyebrows. What the hell was the matter? “Remember the party that was supposed to happen next week?” he inquired, not making eye contact.
“Yeah…” I answered slowly. That was the party he wanted to throw in order to impress Bethany’s brother.
He let out an awkward laugh. “You know I have a funny story!”
I narrowed my eyes at him. “What is it?” He gulped and licked his lip before giving me another fake smile. “Jamieson Rodriguez you better tell me what the hell is going on.” I demanded.
Jamie opened his mouth to speak but was cut off when Bill Jones, Bethany’s brother, made an announcement that made want to break my brother in half.
“PARTY AT RODRIGUEZ’S CRIB!” Bill announced happily. I quickly turned to his direction with a horrified expression.
This was not going to be good.
