Survival Skill 20: Thou shall ride a police car
First off, my Sunday Morning started off with three things I would never think would happen to me.
Let’s start with the kiss. No, I didn’t plan to get my first kiss this morning---technically, midnight, but still. I didn’t schedule today as the day I would get my first real lip action in my seventeen years of existence.
Next, let’s come to terms to who I had it with. Rex Parker. The guy I hated for thirteen years was my first kiss. The irony of it was impeccable. If people told me this a few months ago, I would’ve laugh my ass off and be sent to an asylum for the insane. But, right now, considering the point that I actually wanted this to happen, I couldn’t really set any thought about it right now.
Fortunately, the next thing was a perfect distraction.
Being driven home in a police car,
Yes, I, Georgina Ann Rodriguez, was a delinquent for following my monkey-brained boyfriend. We were caught red-handed for trespassing and were sent to jail. Lucky for us, before we even got the chance to enter a freakin’ cell, Mrs. Parker came to the rescue and went straight to the police station to save us. This led to my situation now.
I was sitting in a police car to be escorted home with Rex and Mrs. Parker in the back seat. Rex and I hadn’t talk about the kiss yet since we were too busy getting arrested and to say that it would be awkward to start that conversation with Mrs. Parker in audible distance, would be the biggest understatement of the night. And there were a lot of understatements tonight. The tensed atmosphere didn’t really get me in the mood either. Rex was staring outside the window, the same as I was in the opposite side, and I could sense Mrs. Parker was itching for an explanation from her son but was embarrassed to ask about it with a cop in the driver seat.
Finally, after half a lifetime worth of awkward silences, we arrived at our neighbourhood.
“I’m really sorry for this, officer. It won’t happen again.” Mrs. Parker apologized to the cop who drove us as soon as we were out of the car.
“It’s perfectly fine, Ma’am.” he assured, rubbing his bald head. “I’ve been a kid once. We do terrible things at that age.”
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. These types of adults make me feel like teenagers are reckless and troublesome. Oh, please. Like adults were any better.
“Well, it won’t happen again, officer.” Mrs. Parker said, giving Rex the stink eye. Rex flinched at the gesture of her mother. As shocking this may be, he hated upsetting his Mom.
The cop let out a hearty laugh and ruffled my hair. I resisted the urge to slap his hand away as he gave Rex and me, a toothy grin. “Hopefully, I won’t see you again in jail, kids.”
We gave him a blank look. Was he trying to look like a hero here?
After a few moments of staring---maybe, glaring, for me---at the cop, he finally gave up in getting a reaction from us and turned back to Mrs. Parker. “Well, I best be on my way, Ma’am.” he excused. Mrs. Parker nodded with a small smile. Slipping into his car, he gave us another smug smirk. “Stay in school kids!” he advised, showing off a thumbs-up.
It took everything inside of me, not to throw a brick on his face. Normally, I wouldn’t get annoyed with authority but let’s face it, there was a lot of things I didn’t normally do that I actually did ever since I became Rex Parker’s girlfriend.
“GEORGINA ANNE RODRIGUEZ!”
Shit. I know that sound anywhere.
“I told you, you were grounded, and you ended up arrested,” Mom growled as she stalked up to me. Jamie was hot on her trail, looking somewhat bemused as he tried to suppress his smile. So I had to get myself in jail so that I could get myself a smile from Jamie?
