Lavaridge Town Two Years Ago (Sam's POV)
"Why did the daycare lady just give me an egg out of the blue?" I held the generic looking egg up to the sky, trying to use the sunlight to see inside to the type of Pokemon that was waiting to be born into this world. "I bet Kris would know what you are," I sighed, hugging the egg to my chest as I wandered down some route and into a rather rural city.
It wasn't some random city I'd found my way into, I'd planned on this one in particular after I received the egg in hopes that I could speed up the hatching process; the city was famous for its hot springs. Lavaridge Town- large enough in population to sport a Pokemart and a Gym, but apparently too small to earn the title "city." I'd been here once before in my quest for the Hoenn region Gym badges, which I was up to seven now out of the standard eight. There were two reasons I wasn't on my way to defeating the eighth Gym leader: 1) I really wanted to know what was going to hatch from this Pokemon egg and 2) Kris and I had recently help taken Team Rocket down from the inside out requiring much needed vacation time in the after math.
"Come on, whatever-you-are," I took a turn towards the distant Pokemon Center. "Let's take a dip in those lovely hot springs."
Since there was a care center that looked after your Pokemon with a separate spring for them to relax in, I left them with the caretaker and took my egg to the main springs. There were a series of pools stretching out towards a cliff face not too far off from the Pokemon Center. Some of the larger ones were spotted with families enjoying the warm water peacefully, kids splashing and laughing, but not being too loud or rambunctious, but mostly there were a lot of old people in the pools resting their weary joints and talking to one another about days long ago. I managed to find a pool backed up by the cliff face that was devoid of other persons and sank in with the Pokemon egg half submerged in my lap.
(Author: I'll have you know she is clad in a bikini, if you were wondering.)
"Now this," I leaned my head back on the lip of the pool, closing my eyes. "This is a vacation."
"Typically, vacations are taken with others. This is a sabbatical."
"Half a day is not a sabbatical," I growled at the newcomer. "Who asked you anyway?"
"No one." He had the audacity to slide into the pool right next to me, as if there wasn't enough room for him to avoid touching me.
"What are you doing here, Alan?" I lifted my head and opened my eyes enough to glare at him sitting next to me in the water. He was topless, revealing a surprisingly toned torso that I had never seen until now though we'd been friends for three years and unfortunately he caught me staring.
"What am I doing here?" He repeated, trying to discreetly flex his muscles. I rolled my eyes. Sixteen years old sure were full of themselves. "Why I'm here to hit on girls obviously."
"Then go find some in another pool. This one is taken." I splashed some water into his eyes, momentarily unbalancing the egg and making it submerge completely. "Gah!" Quickly maneuvering the egg back to only half submergence, I glared at Alan. "Shoo!"
"What you got there?" He scooted closer if that was possible.
"None of your business," I scowled.
"Is that an egg?" Leaning over my shoulder, his face was uncomfortably close and I tried leaning away, holding the Pokemon egg at arm's length. "Let me seeee," he whined.
"Will you go away?"
"Yes," he agreed eagerly.
"Why are you so intent on seeing my egg?"
