I'm not sure why, but at some point I fell for him.
No, it wasn't because of his good looks or the way he seemed to get along with everyone. He had a way with words, the way he could turn anyone's frown upside down in an instant. Maybe it was his smile that gave you the feeling that everything was okay.
I shook my head.
It wasn't because he was someone I knew I couldn't have that made me want him more.
That wasn't it at all.
One day I was a lost soul, wandering just like everyone else in the dark tide of life and the next, somehow, he was there when no one else was.
The simple words of "are you alright?" were enough to discard the previous events of a let down because there, someone stood in front of me, and they genuinely seemed to care. He cared.
But that was five years long gone. A moment buried within the memories of our primary days.
I remembered him, but he didn't remember me.
Courage had made It's way up to me and I found myself walking towards him, my hands clasped in front of me as I took slow hesitant steps towards him, my heart rate accelerating with each movement.
"Hi," I had said when I finally reached the boy my eyes locked on.
"Umm.. hi," he spoke as he scratched the back of his head, his face showing the confusion etched upon it. "Do I know you?"
Those words. Even today they linger at the back of my head as I walk the halls of high school, loving from afar.
