Joe Patrick Mauer was born in St. Louis Minnesota on April 19th 1983. Joe came from a long line of baseball players. Both his dad and Grandfather played professionally and his dad was a baseball coach. He also had two older brothers that liked to play baseball. Joe grew up just a few miles from where the twins played. He was a huge twins fan growing up, which is pretty neat considering he is now one of there best players. He whent to cretin-Durham high school in St. Paul. He played other sports he was a top quarterback, top point Gaurd in basketball, and of course top baseball player. Joe had originally gotten a scholarship to play professional football but he turned it down to play baseball professionally instead. He spent his first year playing baseball in the minor leagues for the elizibethton twins. He didn't disappoint he hit a for .400 batting average
