✶ Prologue ✶

KING FREDERICK WAS A cruel man with greasy black hair and cold gray eyes. Instead of doing anything to help the kingdom he sat up in his throne covered in jewels and expensive furs. He only cared about himself, he'd make sure he had everything he wants. His wife and single baby son would get all they wanted as well but you can tell he didn't care about them. Not even a bit.

His wife, Queen Marissa was an equally cruel woman. She was spoilt, rude and could care less about anything other than her family looking perfect. Her blonde hair was beginning to turn gray in some places but she was very good at hiding it. Like her husband she sat on a pile of jewels and furs but unlike him she yelled at everyone in a shrill voice, commanding everyone to do everything she wants exactly when she wants it.

It was no surprise really that these two horrible people were part of the sorting...The sorting was...horrible. It was when babies, a mere 5 months afer being born, would travel from every corner in the kingdom with their parents...no matter how far. If the child didn't come it would be dead. When they did come though there was a 50% chance that it would have a much worse fate. You see, in this fairy tale world...children were sorted into 2 groups: Hero or Villain. The Heroes were given perfect lives, becoming princes and princesses and being stuck in a permanently happy life. The Villains were given horrible lives where they were always crushed by a hero. They had no hope of ever finding love, happiness or anything else...well anything other than sadness or pain. You'd think someone would feel extreme guilt for doing something like that...but no. The Royal Family could care less about the others as long as they got along well...and as they were the only two in the kingdom that could sort the children ... nobody dared go against them. Nobody even questioned their sorting...

It was one of the sorting days, one of those horrible disgusting sorting days. Parents sat outside the castle on horses, carriages and some who made the long journey on foot. All of them were praying that their children would be spared the horrible fate of becoming a villain. Some had been there many times with the older siblings of their current child ... for some it was their very first time. For a weak peasant couple this was their first ... and last time. It had been predicted they'd have one child, one daughter. This would be the only child they'd ever have. They were hoping for a good outcome for this small baby girl, that would be the only good to come out of this trip. On the way to the castle they had been mugged, robbed of all the gold they had brought and their best horse. It had been an extremely long journey, so long in fact that they thought they wouldn't make it. Their feet ached and burned, they were growing sick from lack of good food and drink and to top it all off the duo were growing quite ill from walking around in the cold March air in only the rags they called clothes. They had sacrificed so much for their young little daughter...but they both had a horrible fear like most parents that their baby would become a villain. Someone doomed to murder and ruin lives...someone who would have a dark and horrible life...No...Their little child would not become a villain. She would be a hero...a princess. That was all the duo wanted...Little did they know that their hopes of their daughter becoming a princess would be crushed.

When it was their turn the couple walked towards the castle, the mother Mrs. Rose carried her child in her arms. Her husband, Mr. Rose, squeezed her hand trying to calm his wife.

"She's a good child, Grace ... she'll be a hero" he whispered

Mrs. Rose nodded "I-I know...I can't help but be worried. If our only child is a villain..."

Mr. Rose smiled at her "Don't worry"

The King and Queen were in a horrid mood. They were sick deeming children hero and villain. When the final child, the little girl, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rose was the final child. Needless to say, they weren't all that happy to be testing the final child.  When Mr. And Mrs. Rose walked inside the two were obviously very annoyed and tired. Though obviously not as annoyed and tired as the couple whose daughter was to be judged.

"One more child" a guard said walking through the doors and bowing "One final child"

"Finally!" the Queen exclaimed in her loud shrill voice "I thought this horrid day would never end!"

"Now it has my love" the King said though his voice sounded emotionless "Once this final child has gotten his or her title"

"Villain" Queen Marissa whispered "No matter what, this young child is to be a villain for being such a bother. She shouldn't have existed and we should now be relaxing after this long hard day"

"But what if this child is to be a hero that ca-" King Frederick stated "I suppose you're right Marissa. A villain it is"

And so it happened...

The young girl...

That small innocent little girl....

Her life was destroyed because two people were too lazy to truly study her...

Lilith Rose, a girl who was meant to be a Princess was instead doomed to be a villain. To make people upset...someone who would do absolutely nothing she was supposed to.

Author's Note: Sorry this chapter is so short, the rest will be longer but this is just to prologue so obviously it's going to be a bit shorter. I just wanted to note that throughout the book there may be certain fairytale characters mentioned. But they might have different personalities or pasts or something. I know for a fact the ones I plan on including won't just be copies of how they acted in their actual story. So once again sorry if that annoys you but if you don't like it just don't read it :).
