Chapter One

Draco sighed as he looked around Platform 9 3/4. The Hogwarts Express was surrounded by families saying their goodbyes but he stood alone. You see, his father was too wrapped up in trying to please the Dark Lord and bring 'honor' back to the Malfoy name to be bothered by something as simple as Draco leaving for another year at Hogwarts. Narcissa, his mother, would be here but Lucius had insisted that he needed her assistance at the Manor. Taking another look around as he gathered his belongings, Draco noticed a head of messy black hair that could only belong to Harry Potter. This caused him to sigh again. Draco had long ago came to terms with the fact that he was gay. And yes, he just so happened to have a hopeless crush on Harry. Though he knew that his feelings would never be reciprocated, his mind liked to torment him with thoughts filled with anything and everything he would ever want to happen between him and the raven haired boy. Especially in the form of some rather wet dreams at night. Shaking his head, Draco boarded the train and walked until he came to an empty compartment. He shut himself inside and sat, staring out the window and hoping this year could be different. He was sick of trying to live up to what everyone thought he should be. It all came down to a name. Malfoy. That name held so many expectations and he was sick of it. He didn't hate Harry Potter. Nor did he have any problem with muggleborns as had been engrained into him since he was small. No. This year had to be different somehow. He just couldn't take it anymore. A small smile played across his lips as he continued to stare out the window. This year would be different, Draco would make sure of it. This would be the year that he put it all behind him. No matter the cost, Draco was done with living a life that wasn't truly his. He was done pretending to hate people because of their blood. But most importantly, in his mind anyway, he was done pretending that he wasn't head over heels in love. In love with Harry Potter.

On the other end of the train, Harry sat in a compartment full of people. He was wedged against the window. Across from him, sat his best friend Ron Weasley with his younger sister Ginny and Luna Lovegood. Next to Harry sat Hermione Granger, his other best friend. And finally, next to her was Neville Longbottom. Hermione leaned over nudging Harry's shoulder pulling him from his thoughts. "It wouldn't hurt you to smile a bit you know." She told him with a chuckle. Harry turned from where he was staring out the window and smiled at his friend. "There, is that better?" His tone was teasing and Hermione smiled brightly back at him "Yes that is much better, thank you." Harry shook his head a little, but the smile remained on his face. The rest of the ride was passed with not so quiet conversations and laughter amongst the friends.

When the train stopped, everyone piled out and into the carriages. Excited chatter could be heard from all directions as students were discussing the new term. Draco held back, allowing himself a few more moments of solitude. It wasn't too long though before the reality of being back at school hit him. It just so happened to come in the form of one, Pansy Parkinson. She sauntered up to him with a flirtasious smile resting on her lips. "There you are Draco!" She shrieked, causing him to flinch. "I didn't see you on the train and I got so worried. You weren't avoiding me were you?" Draco sighed as he felt her hand grip his arm, but shook his head. "Not at all Pans, just wanted a bit of time." Pansy poked her bottom lip out, in what was supposed to look like a cute pout but really just got on Draco's nerves. "And to think of all the 'fun' we could have had..." Draco leaned back to avoid her lips, which were suddenly way too close to his own. Pansy looked at him as if he had grown a third head, "Do you not want me anymore?" With another sigh, Draco ran his fingers through his hair and shook his head. "Can we just go? We are going to miss the carriages if we don't hurry." Pansy frowned at him but didn't persue the conversation any further. One carriage ride, and a very sulky Pansy later, they were finally sitting at Slytherin table. Draco couldn't help but let his eyes wander over Gryffindor table until they came to rest on Harry.

Harry looked up when he felt eyes on him, this wasn't an unusual feeling for him to experience rather, he was quite used to it. Harry let his eyes slowly move around the room and eventually they locked with the steely gray eyes of Malfoy. Neither of the boys looked away at first. Harry decided that something in Malfoy looked different. He just couldn't decide on what it was exactly. After a moment, Draco looked down at his plate, effectively breaking their eye contact. It was then that the sorting ceremony must have ended because food started to appear on all of the tables and everyone started eating. Harry didn't look back over at Draco for the remainder of the feast. Though, he did feel eyes on him more than once.

Draco pulled the curtains shut around his bed and laid down. He had everything he wanted to do figured out but he had no clue how he was going to make those things happen. His thoughts, as they often did at night, turned to Harry. He had looked really good at the feast, smiling and laughing with the Weasel and Granger. What Draco wouldn't give for Harry to be able to do those things with him...and so much more. The more he thought about it, the more he just wanted to be able to tell Harry how he felt about him. But with those thoughts came the fear of what Harry would say. Hell, they aren't even friends..how could they possibly be more? Eventually Draco was pulled into an uneasy sleep with thoughts of rejection clouding his dreams.

On the other side of the castle, Harry was just getting into bed after having spent some times with his dormmates playing exploding snap and just catching up in general. He was very tired but also escstatic to be back at Hogwarts. As he layed there staring at the ceiling, he could hear Ron already snoring. Seamus and Dean were having a whispered conversation that Harry didn't care enough to be nosy and try to listen to. It sounded as if Neville was trying and failing to get comfortable in his bed. Harry smiled. It felt good to be home.
