"The only way to find out what the future holds, in its true form, is to wait and experience it"
The colours of the sky were fading into one, as Hermione Jean Granger was peering out of her glass window. Indeed, it was a gorgeous sunset. Anyone could easily tell that Hermione was very disheveled because of the extraneous homework that she had in the past few days. Well, the tons of homework was quite expected as she was in her sixth year of hogwarts. Hermione disliked the winter time of year because of the dreary gloom and doom, but generally nobody cared about her feelings, for she was the insufferable know-it all. They thought that all she cared about was books, essays, and homework. To be honest, she did care about that very much without a doubt, but no surprise, people are shallow, and they didn't stop a split second to consider her feelings. Additionally, being professor's assistant was no easy job. And also she had to help some of the professors, especially Snape ugh, with grading papers and assignments. Definitely it was a LOT on her plate for a sixteen year old to handle. She had barely enough time to breathe, to be frank. She felt quite lonely, due to the fact that she wasn't very close with her family, nor did she have a boyfriend or a love interest. Cho Chang, Luna Lovegood, Ron.... Even Ron Weasley had a girlfriend. If a useless case like Ron can easily get a girlfriend, Hermione wasn't sure why she couldn't get a guy. To be honest, the most romantic that Hermione ever got was with Viktor Krum, during the petty Yule Ball from her fourth year. She cringed at the thought of her old turquoise blue dress (which was pretty much falling apart now) from her Bat Mitzvah, that her parents bought, way back in the summer of her second year. Sigh. Her parents were not content with her going to a magic school. Well, to be honest, no "sane" muggle would ever send his or her daughter to an elite school where young adults trained to be witches and wizards. Her parents would always try to get her to go to high school, like all the other "normal" kids her age. Even though Hermione was a Muggle-born, she never felt at home in the Muggle world. Divination, the defense of the dark arts, charms, and spells is where she truly felt at home. Oh, and speaking of that......
"Hermione!! Where did you put my History of Magic book?? Professor Binns is going to kill me!" Said her annoying roommate Lavender Brown. Honestly, Hermione could not stand her. She was always interrupting Hermione in her thought processes, whether it be during her assignments or her other random pondering. And that is something that Hermione thoroughly disliked.
"It's just one year, Hermione. You can put up with it."
Hermione pulled the book out of the small shelf in the corner of her room."Lavender, it's literally right there. Quit whining, will you?" Asked Hermione, irked.
Lavender, then flicked back her thick, blond hair and silently retrieved her book, with an angry whimper. She proceeded to roll her eyes at Hermione, which Hermione reciprocated.
Just then, she remembered that the head boy/head girl names were to be released at the great hall that night around eight. Hermione was one of the eager applicants, and she had met all of her requirements to be head girl. Outstandings on all her exams? Check. Fourth hours of service to the school? Check. (Thankfully, hanging out with Hagrid counts as hogwarts service) "Should I go to the great hall now to find out my fate?" She asked herself repeatedly. Her adrenaline was rushing through her whole system, and her stomach felt like pixies were fluttering freely throughout it. At one point, she felt like she didn't even want to know whether she got the honorable position or not. This was a tendency of hers, to accept defeat way before she even knew the results to anything. There was then this sudden surge in her, which wanted to know whether she got the position or not, so she calmed herself (a bit) by conjuring a chamomile tea, and walking to the corridors. The walk to the great hall had NEVER seemed any longer. It felt like an eternity.
"You probably didn't make it, just prepare yourself for the worst!",
She told herself. She almost reached the great hall, the place where the moment of truth will take place. Her stomach was plummeting worse than it did the first time she rode that Hippogriff.
"Hermione! Snap out of it!"
Said a voice behind her. She turned back to see Parvati rolling her eyes, quite irked.
"For the past 20 minutes Ron, Harry, Padma, Neville, and I have been trying to congratulate you for getting the place of Head Girl! And you haven't said a word." Said Parvati.
"Wait wha-what who Head Girl?!"
Stuttered Hermione. She had been absolutely oblivious to this situation, and she was totally boggled.
"Congrats 'Mione, very proud of you!" Echoed Ron, Harry, and Neville.
Hermione was totally shocked, and finally her adrenaline was abating, and she was getting a sense of relief, more than anything.
"Oh, and Dumbledore asked you to come to his office to talk about your responsibilities as head girl, you know the whole nine yards."
Harry informed Hermione.
"Oh. I'll be on my way right now. Thanks for telling me that, um I'm head girl now."
She said with a warm smile.
"Most welcome! Catch you later, Hermione."
Said Harry. They both parted ways, as Harry left for his dormitory and Hermione to Dumbledore's office.
"Ah, Miss Granger is here. Glad you joined us."
Said Dumbledore in a dreamy tune.
"Mr. Malfoy is yet to join us. Very well, I'll start delegating my tasks..." Dumbledore trailed off.
"Wait?! What?! Draco? The head boy?"
Said Hermione, panicking. Before Dumbledore could utter a word, the tall, fair, and rather vain boy walked in. As usual, he walked with his steady hair with his head held up high. Like a true Malfoy. Hermione rolled her eyes at his insolence. "Ah Mr Malfoy.... Glad you can join us today." "My pleasure, sir." Whispered Draco quietly. "Congratulations Miss Granger and Mr. Malfoy. You've gotten the post of head boy and head girl." Said Dumbledore cheerfully. Hermione was rather ecstatic about her success, but not exactly jubilant about working with her arch enemy Draco Malfoy. They were told about their obligatory dorm patrol, attendance checks, and interviewing Hogwarts applicants. As Dumbledore dismissed them, Hermione saw Draco's silvery blue eyes scowl at her. Indeed fox-like.
