Chapter 15: Drinking, Scaring, Screaming, Kissing, Slapping
Lynsey’s POV:
The rest of December went by so quickly. Probably because I spent most of it sleeping and watching television. The pain was going away a little more each day, so I was only on the Oxycontin for two days and I only took half of one pill the second day. Now I just take Advil for the pain. There was no need for me to take the insanely strong drug and then possibly get addicted to it. I will never understand why people get so addicted to Oxycontin, it’s not like it really makes you feel different. Maybe it makes some people feel better, but I just don’t see it. Whatever.
NEW YEAR’S! Due to the condition I’m in my family didn’t have any type of big celebration or party for New Years. No, Payton just came over and we watched the New Year’s Eve special that they have on television every year, we ate some junk, and eventually fell asleep on the couch around 1:30. We didn’t have any alcohol either, believe it or not I have never had alcohol, EVER. And don’t intend to until I’m AT LEAST of proper drinking age. This might not be a reachable goal, but it’s what I strive for really.
Daniel went to some party with Ryan. Shawn went over to one of his old buddies house down the street. And my mom went to the New Year’s party for her work, after I practically forced her out the door. She deserved to have some fun, she never get’s to have any. So it was just me and my best friend, but I’m not complaining. I’m glad that we both were together. I know that I died, like actually died, the first night in the hospital. No one told me though… no one even knows that I know, or knows what I saw when I did die. So to be sitting here with Payton living life, I couldn’t ask for anything more really.
Around 3 in the morning, there was loud banging on the door. I woke up to see that Payton was still asleep next to me and shook her awake, this was scary.
“wha-Lynsey… leave me alone.” she turned her head to her other side when another bang came on the door. She shot straight up. We looked at each other, scared.
“Get my wheelchair.” I whispered. She crept over to my wheelchair and helped me get myself into it. We grabbed some things we thought we could use to defend ourselves. I grabbed a broom and Payton took a lamp. I don’t know… people in movies use lamps I guess.
We made our way to the door, there was still some banging when the phone in my lap rang, causing us to scream. I looked at the caller ID and picked it up.
“Hello?” I whispered.
“Hey Lyns. It’s me at the door, can you please open it? Daniel is crazy drunk.”
“Oh…” I spoke in my normal voice and looked at Payton with a smile, “Yeah hang on one sec.” I put the phone down in my lap. “You can open the door, it’s Ryan and your brother.” she gave me a weird look and opened the door. Ryan looked at me and smiled as he held Daniel upright with his left arm. He looked at what we had in our hands, “Really?” he laughed.
“Yes really.” we said in unison, laughing a little when we realised how stupid we must have looked
“Okay then, can I come in?” he asked peering around me.
