Anthony's POV

As soon as Jenna leaves Marzia's side, the entire group is in a frenzy.

Kalel examines the air vents for an escape route, while Ian and Jenna hammer their fists on the doors, demanding answers.

Not sure what to do, I walk slowly back over to my area of the room and sit down with a heaving sigh.

I don't even remember how I ended up here in the first place.

I sit there and think.

Why would they want us?

Why are we so special?

Surely there are plenty of other people making YouTube videos out there.

I suddeny hear Kalel shouting and I whip my head around to look at her.

"Guys!" she yells. "I think I found a way out of here!"

Everyone drops what they are doing and walks over to her, even Marzia.

"Just one... last...pull," she says, pulling off the grate. "Got it!"

The grate of the air vent comes off, leaving a big, gaping hole in the concrete wall.

We all stare in shock, trying to process this.

"Well?" Kalel says. "What are you doing? Go! Get out of here!"

Starting with Jenna, each person climbs through the vent- which is sizeable enough- until only Kalel is left in the room.

"Are you coming?" I say to her.

She kneels down in front of the vent and leans close to me.

"I'm really sorry," she says.

She's on the verge of tears.

She picks up the grate and winds the screws back in with my pocket knife.

"No!" I yell through the vent. "Kalel! You can't do this!"

"I have to," she whispers.

Kalel's POV

I stand up from my kneeling position and turn away from the air vent.

I can't bear to see Anthony like this.

"Well done," says a robotic voice. "You have passed the test, Miss Cullen."

"Yeah, yeah," I say, looking down at my feet. "Whatever."

I feel tears starting to form in my eyes, but I wipe them away with the back of my hand.

"You shall move on to the next stage," says the voice. "Come through the door."

The door to the room slides open, revealing what is outside.

I hesitantly walk towards it and look out.

I see a somewhat normal-looking carpeted hallway, with a few other rooms along the way.

I am about to step out when a guard seems to suddenly appear in front of me.

"Kalel Cullen?" he asks.

I nod.

"Come with me."

I follow the guard through the many confusing twists and turns of the hallway, trying to remember the way back to the room.

We stop walking in front of a brown wooden door.

The guard takes out a key and opens the door.

He motions for me to go into the room, and I step inside.

"Kalel!" says a familiar voice.

I look straight in front of me and see Felix, sitting on a folding chair next to a makeshift desk.

"Felix!" I almost-scream. "You're alive!"

"OMG no way!" he jokes, faking a shocked look.

I laugh and go towards him, kneeling down on the carpet next to his chair.

Just as I try to say something, I hear the door slam behind us, followed by the turn of a lock.

"Crap," I say under my breath. I turn to Felix. "Quck. Tell me everything they told you."

He shrugs.

"They didn't tell me anything specific, at least I don't think so," he says. "Just something about Valentine's Day, but I don't even know what that was about."

"Valentine's Day?" I say. "You've gotta be kidding me."

I stand up and throw my head back in frustration.

I pace around the room, quietly trying to make sense of all this.

"I-is Marzia okay?" Felix suddenly asks, breaking the silence.

He looks to me with a worried look.

"She's okay," I assure him. "I found a way out of the room. They've all escaped now."

"Good," he says with a slight smile. "Good."

"Now," I say. "We need to figure out why they want us."

"Yeah," he says in agreement. "Wait, where's Anthony?"

I look down at the floor.

"It's a long story," I say quietly. "I don't want to talk about it now."

He nods at me, acknowledging my feelings.

"So," Felix says. "Let's think."

"Right, right," I say, getting myself back in focus. "Okay, let's figure this out. Um, what do we have in common?"

"We make YouTube videos," Felix suggests.

I glare at him.

"Felix," I say. "Not a time for jokes."

"Sorry," he says. "Um, we both have two pets?"

"Uh, okay, I guess," I say. "I don't know if it's relevant, but it's worth a shot.

We sit there talking for what feels like forever, dicussing our similarities.

I yawn.

"Oh god, I'm tired." I say, stretching my arms and back.

"Yeah, me too." Felix replies.

I kick off my sneackers and curl myself up in a corner of the room.

"Goodnight," I say, as I close my eyes.

"Goodnight."
