Prologue (Somewhat cliche)

Now, how should I start this? Forty years back there was a pandemic... No, too common. It would not be fun if I give too much flashbacks now would it, adding on to that it gives me more flexibility to insert mind boggling twist.

We were caught in the crossfire, bullets hailed down like rain... Nah, too dramatic. I bet you guys could guess that it is going to be a fight scene, someone is gonna die, blah and so on.

Well enough babbling, I think I will start from the beginning, starting from a fight scene is far too cliche nowadays. Back to square one...... and also bear with me as I am going through a huge chunk of history.

In the year 2030, forty years back from the present, some douche bag by the name of Douglass Maxon had a crazy theory. A classic yet crazy enough to work plan which might just succeed. The idea was to create a virus to infect people, but develop a cure beforehand. Douglass's unhealthy obsession over mind manipulation made him lean his research on a virus which was insignificant at that point in time - Rabies.

In that very year, Douglass and a team of biological researchers altered the genetic code of the rabies virus creating an extremely infectious, unstable virus. The virus spread through dogs. Any form of contact with infected dogs will result in the transmission of the virus and any contact with people who are infected will transmit the virus again. The symptoms of those affected include lost of rationality, lost of pain receptor, partial blindness, slower movement and an undeniable urge to bite.

The very first batch of virus, with stray dogs as its host was released in China. Strategic reasons considering China's enormous population density and dog meat consumption made it the perfect place to start a global pandemic.

The delay of the appearance of symptoms, cleverly designed by Douglass enabled the virus to spread to other countries through cargo ships, aeroplanes worked as soon enough, a handful of people were infected. In the beginning of his devious scheme all went well.

Five months from the creation of the virus almost half the world caught the disease, severe symptoms started showing and the virus given the nickname MC-12 and was placed on WHO watch list. Douglass being a qualified researcher in the field of biology stepped into the spotlight being the person who offered a cure to save humanity.

Everything went smoothly for a few months, Douglass became one of the world's richest man. He predicted a possible mutation that will hinder his cure useless, so he had a backup when the virus started spreading wildly once more. What that was not premeditated in his ingenious plan was the uncontrollable snowball of his virus. It altered its genetic structure frequently. After a year when everybody thought the virus would have been contained, it all went downhill from there. Everything spiraled out of control as the world descended into utter chaos.

Cities turn into ruins, countries into rubble and empires crumbled. The world's superpowers in 2035 decided to unite to help contain this virus, a cure research was heavily funded and for the first time in history all scientist from all around the globe unite as one to find a cure. What which seemed promising bore no fruit, the mutation of the virus was far to fast.

In the light of such events, a hero rose to the scene. A person with the name of Harold Bertham provided an alternative, instead of reversing the damage, at least salvage what was left behind. In the process of creating a vaccine to prevent further transmission of the virus, governments started to barricade less infected or uninfected areas mostly towns in the outskirts of the main capital called "Civilized City". This was because many main cities like Hong Kong, London, New York were the first few cities to collapse in this apocalypse.

In the year 2043, a vaccine was created and was successful in containing the disease. This breakthrough shed light upon the world. Even so the damage was done, main cities that were once standing now become wastelands, filled with infected people which we called zombies. Nobody of figure out a better word to call creatures that were once human but no longer sane and are cannibalistic. Hmm... maybe walkers? Meh too Walking Dead-ish. Oh wait, the infected... still too game-ish. Ah I know, we call them degenerates. Yeah that's the name.

Infected cities became strongholds of communities led by none other then Douglass Maxon. Being one of the richest man on Earth with net worth over trillions, his community had far superior technology, leaving remaining Civilized City areas to bite the dust. The only setback was being in an infected area limited Douglass's community to expand their influence or overrun Civilized City areas. It also restricted them from assuming total dominance over the world.

One funny thing is the Civilized City military heavily focused on building air defense system. One of the only way Douglass's community could completely demolish us. Seeing the fact that breaching our borders from their territory is too daunting a task, they started spreading propaganda about conspiracy theories of our government. There was a little conflict here and there. But no matter how simple minded a person is, I don't think anybody would believe a person who started this apocalypse, tried to blow us to smithereens with warheads so yeah... Logic for the win.

Still with me? I know this is not really the majority's cup of tea going through past events but we will get to the fun part after this chapter... I hope.

Anyway, in Civilized Cities, our leaders established a harmonious and peaceful society which was a piece of cake considering we are uniting against a common enemy. Sure not everybody was on our side but those people mostly end up becoming Saviors. Saviors are basically what Douglass's community call themselves in which I have forgotten to mention until now. Cause it is firstly ironic and secondly extremely cliche. I mean it is pretty obvious how this name came up. They wanted to save the world with the cure intentionally and unintentionally fucked half of it up.

In our community, the most respected and high ranking jobs are doctors, engineers, scientists and farmers. I don't really have to go through another four paragraphs going through why they are so useful and wanted in society I think logic can already tell you. I just going to jump straight to another group- Raiders. they are not that much of a respected job but more of a high ranking job. Their job is to venture outside the city in the Restricted Zone to scavenge for resources or valuable objects like, microchips, electronic parts, herbs, medicine and the list stretches on. I know you are questioning why is scavenging for items so important. Plus, no this is not Dauntless from the Divergent series. In that context, our communities are not split into factions there are still jobs like teachers, janitors in which Divergent completely forgot. I wonder how people in Divergent get their education...

Firstly, our community is about a few decades behind time in terms of technology compared to what the saviors have. We also have limited resources to make things. Thirdly if you are brainy enough the acceleration of the advancement of technology is in the form of multiplication. So the Saviors will most of the time have the upper hand in terms of cool gadgets. If you were wondering not everything was destroyed in the apocalypse, the adjectives I used was just to create the mood or atmosphere of a war in an exaggerated way. Words for the win.

The restricted zones are split into two types. Firstly we have the first tier Restricted Zone. there is a healthy amount of degenerates infesting this area, a good place for basic resources. Next we have the second tier Restricted Zone, this are mostly main cities in which are occupied by Saviors during the apocalypse. These areas contain extremely valuable resources due to the advancement of technology in the Savior's realm. High risk, high reward.

Raider's sub-jobs include rescuing Wanderers ( a cool name for refugees ) from the Restricted Zones and also casual sieges on Savior bases.

Also speaking of education, our schools teach subjects, mainly focusing on subjects correlating to the high and mighty jobs I mentioned earlier. Each school is also mandatory to provide combat and arms training for students, in which is compulsory to take up. This precaution is taken to prepare for any Saviors assaults. That is not the end yet, each school has also three makeshift battlegrounds for friendly and major tournaments. two standard battleground and one unique battleground to portray each schools uniqueness. A sudden bring up of schools having battlegrounds may seem confusing or forced into this context, but what better way to train students in combat if not on a battlefield.

That should be most of the fundamental history you should know. There are more to come in forms of flashbacks. Here is your foreshadowing, speculate all you want. I might start off with a cliche scene next but who knows.

I have been explaining so much I forgot to give a proper introduction of myself...
