"Lloyd, wait up!" I said running across a grass filled hill, in the villages of Imajibri,"it's no fair!"
"No way!" He shouted back. My legs ached with desire as I tried to catch up to my brother, I wasn't going to let him win this race. Although he was six years older than me, I was skilled for my age, at least that's what he tells me.
" Just face it brother," he turned around and started running backwards ,"I'm faster than you." Apparently he thinks differently at the moment. Our parents house was starting to become clear as we reached the top of the hill. He was going to beat me! I looked at the ground, and out of the corner of my eye, I spotted a small hole behind Lloyd, for he was still running backwards. I started to laugh.
"What are you laughing at?!" He asked, brown eyes focused on me. He doesn't see it! Just as the back of his heal hit the pothole, I sped up, passing him as he fell to the ground. I smiled, quickly looking back at him and then focusing back to in front of me. Just a few more steps, yes! I had touched the door first. Well more slammed into it, but I still touched it first. I slowly walked up to Lloyd, who was now laying on his back staring up at the clouds. "You may be faster, and older" I smirked, standing over him, "but your also clumsier, and too cocky. Typical 10 year old." He laughed. "What would you know?" He asked sitting up. He cringed, hand going to the back of his head. He brought it back, a drop of blood on his finger tip. My eyes widened with worry. "I'm so sorry," I whispered giving him a hug.
"Alix," he said standing once I had let go, " It's just a scratch, there was probably a thorn on the ground or something." That doesn't make sense! I'll take his word for it I guess. Lloyd walked over to the door and slowly turned the knob. This was my least favorite part of coming home. Seeing my parents. They only wanted one kid, with specific standards. They wanted someone with their brown hair and eyes. My dark blue eyes don't exactly fit those standards. They wanted a leader, not a trouble maker.
Lloyd opened the door and we both walked into the house.
"Alix!" Our mother's angry voice rang throughout the house. Of course that's the first thing we hear.
"What was that!?" she shouted coming into the living room. She wore a dress with our triable colors; pink and purple. I never understood why those were our colors.
"What was what?" Lloyd asked slowly stepping in front of me.
"Lloyd! My boy," she said in her sweat voice," I was asking your brother." She softly put her hand on his shoulder, and moved him over to the side. She stared at me, eyes like daggers.
"Now answer my question!" She said, tone back to infuriated, "what was that bang on the door."
I gulped, wondering if I should tell her the truth or not. " That was me," I said, putting my head down. I closed my eyes, expecting her to hit me, or something like that. I didn't feel anything, probably because Lloyd was in the room. I slowly looked up at her. She closed her eyes. "Your father and I are trying to run an entire tribe," she opened them again," and you think running into the door is perfectly fine!"
" No," I said looking at the floor. She smirked, she must like seeing me weak. I'm not weak. Just willing to give in.
She focused her attention onto Lloyd.
"So," she said leading him to a chair, "where did you go."
As they continued to talk I walked towards the back of the house, where Lloyd and I's room was. I knew I wasn't wanted there, so I might as well leave. Inside our room, was two small beds, a bed per side. There was a window on either side, above each bed. Lloyds window is a view of the village. Mine looks out upon the wilderness. Whale lots of people may think the village window was the better deal, I like my window just fine. Other than all the trees, they just seem to get in the way to me. The sun is beautiful, and what I enjoy most about the position of my window. Sometimes I feel like the sun is my only friend, when Lloyd isn't around. I lay on my bed, the sun coming through the window illuminating my face.
"Alix! Neil! Force! Get out here right now!" My mothers angry voice, once again, rang in my ear drums. What did I do this time.
I went out to the living room, just to meet my mother, as angry as can be, standing there waiting for me. Lloyd was nowhere in sight. As I walked up to her, I felt myself contract, nervous with what was to come. I felt a hard slap across my face.
"YOU USELESS CHILD!" She screamed, "YOU NEARLY GAVE YOUR BROTHER A CONCUSSION!!"
I reached my hand to my cheek, tears threatening to fall. "It was an accident!" I said ," and not fully my fault." She walked up to me and moved her finger up making the earth move under my feet. I fell flat on my back. I quickly scrambled onto my feet, and ran toward my room. I locked the door behind me and put up a chair against it. Even my mom's element of Earth couldn't get through the lock. I lay down in my bed, but her words still rang through my head. "You useless child." She's right... I am useless...Sorry if parts of that chapter made no sense. Let us know in the comments what you think.
