Day 1

Once upon a time, not so long ago, or very far away for that matter, lived a young girl named Jenifer. Jenifer grew up living a normal life until the day she turned 25. August 24th, 2012 came up on her like a whirlwind. She was expecting a normal day with the exception of the fact of her birthday. But as all stories go, nothing is ever normal.

Walking along the boardwalk in her small home town, she came across a gypsy machine. The gypsy machine was one that many people looked at as they passed on their way to their final destinations. Jenifer felt a pull towards the machine with no hope of just passing it.  As she walked up to it she pulled out her money. She slipped the one dollar bill into the machine and it roared to life. She waited patiently for her fortune to slip out. When it came out, it read, “The one that you love is closer then it may appear.” She put the card in her pocket thinking it was nothing.

She continued walking along the boardwalk until she felt a hard elbow in her gut. A string of very colorful words came out of her mouth until she reopened her eyes. Standing in front of her was this man who she had never seen before. The word sorry escaped his lips and her breath caught. Using a little voice she said “It’s alright.” She then proceeded to run home.

Michael did not know what to think of himself. A young, beautiful female had just walked into him and run away. He did not know what to think. So he continued his walk. He only had one day left before he returned home to Gisborne, Australia. He continued to walk along the boardwalk. He too saw the gypsy machine and decided to go check it out. He fed the dollar bill into the machine and once again it roared to life. Out came his fortune saying, “The one that you love is closer then it may appear.” He laughed, thinking of course it would say that. He too slipped the card into his pocket and walked back to the hotel to get his things.

Pulling up to the airport, he went through the typical procedures to get on the plane. All throughout the day he could not help but think of the girl. How could he not? The flight was at three in the afternoon and he was planning on sleeping until his flight got in at eleven that night. Just enough time to drive home and be asleep by midnight. The plane boarded and he was out. His dreams were filled with the wonderful thought of her.

Jenifer, running at full speed, was home in minutes. But her mind kept wandering back to the brown eyed man. All her other thoughts had flown out the window when she came home to find her dad drinking again. She wanted to disappear so she would not get caught by him. She made it in to hear the word “Jenifer!” get yelled through the house. The rest of the night was a blur.
