Chapter Two Preview: A New Era
Trying to navigate through Season High's crowded hallways to find the principal's office was nerve racking. I had yet to ask someone for directions, but truth to be told, I was frightened. They all looked so busy chatting, and they probably wouldn't want to have anything to do with the new kid. Or so I thought. I remembered thinking that I was going to aimlessly wander throughout the school forever, when a girl with jet black hair and pale skin strolled up to me. Her hair was in a loose bun with two chopsticks poking out of it.
"Are you lost?"
"Yes. How did you know?" I asked, curious to hear her response.
"Well, you have a lost sort of expression on your face. Plus, you seem kind of... new. Would you like me to accompany you to the principal's office?"
"You would really do that for me?" I questioned, totally taken aback.
"Of course! Follow me, Principal Garth's office is down this hall. By the way, I'm Alice," she instructed.
"Nice to meet you, Alice. I'm Summer," I responded, starting to follow Alice down another hallway.
"That's such a cool name!" Alice exclaimed.
I gave her a curt nod as a thank you, and we faded into silence. I used the silence as an opportunity to scrutinise her. Alice looked harmless enough, but I of all people knew that looks could very well be deceiving.
Soon after, we arrived at a plain jet black door with a silver plate in the center that had the words "Principal's Office" on it. Alice raised the dagger-shaped knocker and rapped twice on the door.
"Come in!" a strident disembodied voice bellowed on the other side.
We entered through the door to see an obese man sitting a fancy desk. How he even managed to fit in that chair behind the desk amazes me.
"What can I do for you, ladies?" the man asked, his voice scratchy.
"Principal Garth, this is Summer. She's new," Alice explained, straight to the point. I liked her already.
"Ah, a new student! Go across the hall, Vice Principal Veronica will help you out," the principal directed.
Hmm, doesn't seem like he even does anything.
We nodded and walked out of Garth's office, Alice closing the door behind us.
