Harry, Ron, and Hermione were tucked underneath the Invisibility Cloak, like old times, but the problem was that Ron was much too tall to fit. The trio's ankles showed when they stood up straight, so they had to crouch down just to be covered.
Hermione knew that Ron was furious at her. He wouldn't look at her, even if she were talking to him. His eyes were always fixed right over her shoulder, as if he wanted to look at her without acknowledging her.
Hermione was especially sorry for Harry. He was just pinned in between their feud, a situation he'd been in many times before. But she couldn't just make up with Ron. It was more complicated than that.
Hermione didn't know how to even start to forgive Ron. If he could just apologize for what he did to Draco... No, even then it would be hard to forgive him. Every time she looked at him, ever since hey decided they couldn't be together, she just saw how hurt he was. How betrayed he felt. All by her.
Now that she thought about it, she had really been the one to decide that they shouldn't date. Even though he agreed with her, his response seemed very rushed, like he was just going along with it to not let on how hurt he felt.
Hermione just now realized this, thinking to herself, trudging along under the cloak. It seemed obvious that Ron was still upset about their break up, but Hermione was just putting two and two together, recognizing how angry and abandoned he felt.
But she couldn't worry about all that right now. At the moment, the top priority was accomplishing a task they always did when they were younger.
They were going to sneak into the Restricted Section of the library.
