Chapter Two
The wind rustles my brown, curly hair and I shiver. The jacket I've worn wasn't making me feel warm as I hoped. My legs freeze underneath the stockings and my blue, infinity anchor scarf does nothing to keep my neck warm. I keep walking and try not to slip in my blue navy keds. Every five seconds, it seemed like there was a pile of wet, muddy autumn leaves.
I heave a sigh of relief as I reached the house littered with skeletons and pumkins. The tombstones on the ground were very convincing. I knock and jump up and down to huddle for warmth. And that's how Nathan finds me as he opens the front door dressed in a white and blue navy captain's uniform. Oh. You've got to be kidding me.
His bright, green eyes eye me up and down and roam around my body far too long than I was comfortable with. I clear my throat and he flashes an embarrassed smile. "Are you gonna let me in or not?" My tone drips of venom. How dare he call me on Halloween. And how stupid of me to actually come.
I needed the money though. For me to get the promised 100 a week, we would have to meet at least once and so far this week, we haven't. Not that it was my fault, but Nathan was adamant on cancelling on me everytime I scheduled a session. Until now. My mind tells me that he planned this all along.
I hug my arms tightly, feeling the cold seep into my bones. Nathan, probably sympathetic to my plight ushers me inside. The house looked transformed.
Candles were lit inside pumpkins that gave the house an eerily glow. Cobwebs were hanging from the ceiling and on the staircase. The chandelier in the foyer looked mancing, the ghost and headless faces on the walls, all seem to be looking at me and the fake blood looked a tad too real. I shiver, not from the cold this time. "You guys have really outdone yourselves " I must have been really creeped out by the decorations because I screamed when two hands land on my shoulders.
I hear Nathan's laugh and I huff. "It's not funny. You're house looks fucking creepy."
He continues to laugh and I stomp towards the living room and settle down on the couch. "Can we make this quick? I still need to take my sister trick or treating. And I will get in a whole lot of trouble if I don't."
"Well in that case." Nathan starts unbuttoning his shirt. My hand reflexively covers my eyes. "What the hell are you doing!"
I scream at him, peaking between my fingers. I couldn't help notice his tan, broad shoulders under his half unbuttoned shirt. "This isnt a booty call."
He raises his eyebrows at me. "It doesn't seem like you mind at all though." I turn beet red and drop my hands.
"Don't be so full of yourself." He chuckles and slumps down beside me on the couch. "What's the agenda?" I quickly ask him, trying not to stare at his chest. He brings his hand to his jaw and pretends to think.
"Well, to be honest...there's nothing really. I just wanted company." He flashes me that million dollar smile that I knew turned all those damned girls into mush. But not me.
I punch him on the arm. "Are you serious? Didn't you hear what I just said? I have better things to do!"
"Oh yeah? Like what? Take your sister trick or treating? That's no fun."
"Sometimes, it isn't about having fun!" I could feel my temper rise. It seems like I really have no patience when it came to this guy. I started breathing in and out, to calm down. "Somtimes, Nathan, we don't have a choice. We can't think of fun. Not because we want to but because we can't. Because there's so many other things to worry about." I looked him dead in the eye, making my point across. Just because he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, he thought everyone had it easy. He thought it was fucking easy.
