Chapter 14- Waking With Fur, Sleeping With Guilt

“Doc, something is happening,” Someone yelled panicked. I tried opening my eyes, speaking or even moving but I couldn’t it was like I wasn’t in my body anymore.

“She’s shifting,” a deeper voice said shocked.

“She can’t be shifting, it’s not possible.”

“Calm down, you're freaking out the others. She’s shifting and even if it’s not supposed to happen this way it is. Now everybody relax, she will be fine. I know it’s not normal or even possible but her body is forcing the change, we will have to bear with it.”

“She will be okay, right?” a voice asked, thick with emotion.

“As okay as she can be. This will be very painful.”

There was silence and nothing else, I wanted to hear them speak, I wanted to know how long it would last, the pain.  I heard gasps and soft sobs as bones broke and cracked, there were tearing sounds too and a whimper. I didn't know what was going on; I only had the noises that surrounded me to let me know what was happening.

The tearing, crunching, breaking sound went on for a few minutes. I gave up on listening and just floated or hung in the darkness, awaiting something to happen, something to wake me up so that I would be back in my body again. I was floating or hanging when I felt a pull, it was pulling me and the further it pulled me the more pressure I felt against my body.

A pained cry escaped my lips as I fell back into my body, no longer floating around in the darkness of my subconscious; I was back in control of my own body. My body was pulled in awkward ways, and I have more than thirty broken bones. I whimpered with every breath, everything was in pain. It felt as if someone kept dropping a boulder on me over and over again, breaking my bones over and over again.

When they said it would be painful, I was expecting pain radiating throughout my body and sharp pains to randomly hit me but I didn't expect this, and if it was this painful while I was still half unconscious I don’t want to know how painful it will be when I'm fully awake. Another bone breaking sound was heard and I felt my back lifting of the mattress in an awkward way ,a pained cry escaping my lips, a few bones broke and rearranged themselves, my entire body vibrated with pain as my muscles moved around to accommodate the new bone structure. A sharp pain sprung to life at my chest and a few ribs broke and rearranged themselves just like they did at my back. This time the pain knocked me out full blast.

“...She’s waking,” Someone whispered. I growled and rolled over, my body was stiff and sore. I sniffed and everything smelt funny, like all my senses where heightened, I swear I heard the beep of a microwave and the footsteps of people walking around far away.

“Ryan?” Someone asked a bit too loudly for my liking. Opening my eyes, I jumped out and off the bed. A snarl ripped itself out of my chest, shocked at the sound I stopped and looked around frantically.

Jason, Jarred and Emmett where standing around the bed I occupied earlier, they didn't make a move towards me and then Jason took a step towards me but abruptly stopped when I growled at him, he lifted his hands up, palms towards me in a surrender manner. “Ryan, we know this is really weird and you probably don’t know what’s going on, but I-we need you to calm down so we can explain things to you.” I couldn’t concentrate on what Jason was saying all that went through my mind was, ‘why was he so tall all of a sudden?’ I just couldn’t answer the question, it’s like he grew four inches in a day.

I opened my mouth to ask Jason what he was talking about, but a barking sound left my lips. What the hell, I barked? Why am I barking? Trying to say something else another bark left my lips. This is not normal, not even close to normal!
