"Philip. Hurry along! We're going to be late." Eliza scurried her eighteen year old son to the cart waiting outside their mansion.
"Sorry Ma. I was just helping Dad with his papers. He was telling me about the peasants in the town. Isn't it sad?"
"You sound just like your uncle John." She smiled cupping his face with her hand and caressing his cheek with her thumb.
"Stick with me." She smiled.
"I-is there a way you can tell the difference between the rich and poor?" William asked Eliza. She nodded.
"The paupers in the town will have a distinctive black mark on them. Usually from moving the coal and dirt." She said as the door closed. They were heading into town to find a suitor for Philip. The Hamiltons were meeting up with the Burrs and Eacker families. They were all to meet at the infamous pub where Laurens, Hamilton, Lafayette, Mulligan and Burr all met.Meanwhile (Y/N) was in the town, doing anything for a scrap of a piece of food. Your younger brother Robert, who is fifteen was on the other side of the street flirting with a shop owner for some milk and cheese. Being poor wasn't the life style you wanted. No one wants to lifestyle. Your mother died giving birth to your youngest sister, and you barely saw your father doing the week. He was a coal miner and worked on ship. You barely saw him. You kept a close eye on your brother as he slipped a small loaf of bread in his pocket.
"Somebody stole my bread." The baker announced.
"Thief!"
"Street rat!"
"Scoundrel."
"Rip him open. Take it back guys.""Robert! Run." You shout at your brother as you grab a handful of apples from the fruit store near you and you ran.
Philip hung around George and Theodosia for most of the afternoon.
"Dad said that mom and I had to be back by three o'clock. Mother has become sick and because there's meant to be a storm coming, dad doesn't want us in the cold as it will get her even more sick." Theodosia stated as we turned a corner away from our parents.
"Let's go get Philip a nice piece of arse-"
"Piece of cheese."
"Yeah. Nice save Theo." George joked with Theo. I rolled my eyes at their pettiest. The clouds began to turn darker. I noticed young girl eyeing a boy from across the street. They were both wearing brown unclean slacks. I looked for a black mark. She didn't have one, but he had one sponged across his face. I noticed him quickly snatch a cup of milk and then a loaf of bread and sprinted off. The girl followed in suit."Somebody stole my bread!"
"Thief."
"Street rat!"
"Scoundrel."
"Rip him open. Take it back guys."I didn't even looked at the two people I was with. I chased after them. How dare they steal that food. That's so low.
"Philip. Where are you going?" George barked.
"It's going to rain." Theodosia cried reaching out for me.
"I'll only be a minute." I ran after the girl and boy running away from the scene."I think he lost them." The boy laughed. I followed his voice. He was hidden in a room behind the pub. I open the door open and saw the scene in front of me. There was the young girl, who couldn't have been any older than me, her brother who was with her and two other younger girls, one probably eight or nine and the other less than one year.
"What did you manage to get?" The boy asked his older sister.
"I could only get three apples this time." She sighed disappointed. How dare she steal three apples. They're at three three pounds each.
"That's still good. I got the milk and a loaf of bread." The boy smiled.
"I'll give Evie the milk." The older sister said to her younger brother. Just as she gave her little sister to start eating an apple I stepped in."Why did you steal that?"
"Oh shit." The brother shouted. The girl jumped in front of her family and threw her hands out to protect them.
"I-I'm not going to hurt you. I just want to know why you stole the food." Philip asked. You sigh.
"We uhm, we can't afford it." The boy said breaking the loaf in half. The rain began to patter on the roof.
"Oh. I'm sorry to hear that." Philip frowned unsure on what to do. "I'm Philip Hamilton."
"Are you Alexander Hamiltons son?" The boy asked me as his sisters shoulders sunk and sat back down.
"Yeah." I smiled proudly.
"Cool. Can you tell him to fix everything and get rid of Jefferson-"
"Robert." His sister sneered. I smirked.
"Be nice. Here would you like some bread or milk." She asked as she grabbed her youngest sister in her arms and pulled a blanket over her. She fell asleep quickly.
"I'm (Y/N)." You say to Philip as you tear off a piece of bread for Philip and the cup of milk.
"Don't you need this?" Philip asked. She shook her head.
"You can have my serve. It's okay. I'll just have some tomorrow." You smile as your other sister Sylvia puts her head on your knee. You brushed her hair off her face as the thunder cracks. "It's going to be okay."Philip was worried for his father. He knew that he didn't do well in weather like this. If Philip doesn't get home as soon as possible then Alexander would probably killing himself.
"I-I should go."
"No no. It's okay. Here." You smile to Philip and you pass him a blanket you knitted. It was only a four feet long. You had created two whilst living behind the pub. You also stole one. The one stolen you had wrapped around Evie in your hands. Philip was hesitant about staying behind the pub with your family. He knew his family wouldn't want him hanging around a peasant family.
"I'm sorry there isn't much heat." You warmly smile at Philip.
"Oh no. It's all good." He chuckled lying down on the tough pavement.
"So, how long have you been living here for?" Philip curiously asked.
"Uhm, probably a couple of years." You reply rubbing Sylvia's arm to keep her warm.
"Whoa." He said bluntly.
"You know, you're the only person who's ever chased after us and not taken us to the authorities." You tell Philip smiling. You could trust this kid for tonight.•••
"Can I wake him up?" Sylvia asked tugging on your arm. Robert had run out early this morning to get some milk off the pubs owner. He knew you guys were staying there and tried to do everything to help you out. He usually came back with two cups of milk and a warm, freshly baked bread roll.
Philip groggily woke up, wiping the back of his hand on his forehead.
"Morning." You smile at Philip passing him a piece of bread.
"No no. It's okay. I should get going. I'm sure my family are worried about me." Philip smiled. That's right. He has a whole family out their, worried about him.
"If you uh, need anything. We're in the town. You know where to find us." You smile and Philip bows kissing your hand.
"It was an honour to be in your company Miss (Y/N)." Philip smiled.Back at the Hamilton residence, Alexander was pacing up and down the house whilst Eliza tried to calm Angelica down. She was worried about her older brother Philip as well. They did everything together. What if he was dead? She would go insane. Philip walked into the house but was stopped immediately.
"Where have you been son! Your mother has been worried sick. I didn't get any sleep last night because of you. What do you have to say for yourself?" Alexander scolded at Philip. Philip stood in the door way of the house."I think I found a suitor." He smiled proudly.
