The words had been clear, inscripted in luminescent inking on his skin from before he established a long-term memory. Silver, swirling, and vibrant, his arm was covered in the foreboding nonsensical writing under his skin. The markings were whatever their soulmate had told them last. An unforgiving cycle.

“I’m sorry,” The words read. Everyone had the phrases tattooed onto their bodies. They held the final words of their soulmates, and every religion incorporated them somehow. No one wanted to see their lover die.

Keith tousled his black hair lazily, fixed his white and red jacket, and faced Lance who stood in the doorway. He spared a glance at the, “I’m sorry,” written on his arm.

“So,” Keith started, inching his way towards the other. Roommates are not supposed to argue this much, goddamnit.

“So?” Lance and his perfect hair repeated back to him impatiently. Lance crossed his arms demandingly, obviously asking for an apology.

“Listen, I’m not apologizing. It was your fault for leaving the chargers out where the cat could chew them,” he caught his breath before continuing, “And it’s not Houdini’s fault either. He’s just a cat,”

“I don’t care about that! Just, who’s going to pay for it? We’re broke, dude,” Lance countered back to him. Keith pretended to ignore the immense pain coming from the markings at that moment.

“Okay. I get it, I understand. I’m sorry for yelling at you?” Keith offered. Lance nodded in success, adding his own remark.

“I’m sorry,” He commented, stepping outside into the bustling street. Keith’s arm was burning a furiously colored silver at this point.

     Keith screamed at the sight.

“I’m. . .sorry.” Keith finally said.
